From the brains behind the hit Big Brother and Deal or No Deal franchises, Endemol is now giving pop star hopefuls a chance to be a step closer to their dream. Originally known as Star Academy, its emerging popularity brought about its franchises in various part of the world. Africa refers to it as Project Fame while in the US it’s touted as The One: Making a Music Star. Other countries who caught the Star Academy fever are the UK, Turkey, Spain, Russia, Romania, Portugal, the Netherlands, Middle East, Mexico, Italy, India, Greece, Germany, France, Chile, Canada, Bulgaria, Brazil, Belgium, and Argentina.

In spite of the various names that its been called in each country, the mechanics are basically the same, wherein the “academy” is being managed by a principal and teachers are there to teach the students various artistic disciplines. Day and night the students will be monitored by hidden cameras and there would be weekly live performances of the students where they will showcase the things they have learned and practiced in the past week. During the concert, a panel of jurors will choose the students who will be nominated for the week. The public then gets to vote for the student they want to remain at the academy.

Star Academy is actually the second biggest reality show franchise in the world - the top being Big Brother.

Yep she’s on the cover of the July-August 2006 issue all right. Sandara’s too young not to mention too skinny to pose for UNO. She looked sick. What the hell were they thinking? FHM on the other hand went with Pops Fernandez whose pictorial looked a little better than Sandy’s.

Apl.de.ap, the Filipino American member of the Grammy-winning Black Eyed Peas, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Merit during the hip-hop group’s courtesy call in Malacañan Thursday.

The awardee, whose real name is Allan Pineda Lindo, is a native of Sapang Bato, Angeles City.

Our very own Lia Andrea Ramos was awarded Miss Photogenic.

Apparently Kim Chiu is the hottest. This is according to an online survey made by Chikadora. Next to Kim (who got 44% of the total votes) was Angel Locsin (24%) then followed by Heart Evangelista (24%). The other choices were Sandara Park, Chynna Ortaleza, Katrina Halili, Iwa Moto, Julianne Lee, and Isabel Oli.

Peace reigns at least at the Miss Universe 2006 contest, where beauties Miss Lebanon and Miss Israel are the “best of friends” despite the bloody fighting between the two countries back home, their companions said.

Binibining Pilipinas Universe Lia Andrea Ramos will represent the Philippines in the coming Miss Universe which will be held on July 23, 2006 at Los Angeles, California. She hails from Davao and is a BS Psychology graduate of UP Diliman.

GMA 7’s Senior Vice President for Entertainment Wilma Galvante said that they might conduct an audition for the lead role of Bakekang. Bakekang, was a komiks novel made by Carlo J. Caparas and was made into a movie in the 70’s.

ABC 5 moved the premiere telecast of Philippine Idol on July 30 (from July 29), that’s a Sunday at 8 in the evening. It will go head to head with Rated K of ABS-CBN Channel 2 and Mel and Joey of GMA Channel 7.

Christopher Borja more popularly known as Inday Garutay filed suit against the said restaurant.

On July 4, 2006, Inday Garutay entered Aruba Restaurant in Metrowalk Commercial Complex to meet with a friend and a producer for a show in Japan. She was accompanied by her partner. After using the ladies toilet, she was reportedly asked to leave the restaurant by the Supervisor, Ms. “Tintin” Aguilar. Aguilar allegedly told Inday Garutay that Aruba has a dress code and that cross-dressers like her are prohibited from entering the establishment. (”Mayroon po kaming dress code dito. Bawal po ang cross-dresser. Bawal po ang ganyang katulad mo.“). Because Aguilar was unrelenting, Inday decided to leave.
