Former vice-mayor Roberto Brillante of Makati on Thursday filed administrative charges with the Department of the Interior and Local Government against the Makati City government for allegedly maintaining 600 ghost employees at the city hall.

Named respondents in the case are Mayor Jejomar Binay, Vice-Mayor Ernesto Mercado and 16 city councilors.

Members of the Professional Regulatory Commission’s (PRC) Board of Nursing have offered to resign following the controversial leak in the nursing board examinations last June. Eufemia Octaviano, chairwoman of the PRC-BON, gave the recommendation before the lawmakers led by Sen. Rodolfo Biazon during the Senate inquiry yesterday. Octaviano volunteered to lead all the members of the PRC-BON before the Senate amid alleged pressures from Malacañang not to attend the hearing.

It’s about time we turn those receipts back to cash. The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) launched Premyo sa Resibo where there will be 5 winners of 1 million pesos (tax free) just by texting in receipt numbers. Another good reason why we should ask for receipts. The first draw was held last Aug 1, 2006. There will be another draw on September 1, 2006 for receipts of goods purchased from June 1 to August 31, 2006. For more details on the raffle mechanics go to the contest’s official web site.

Local residents and a couple of foreigners are going near Mayon Volcano to witness the lava flow. This is in spite of the possibility that Mayon could erupt and spew pyroplastic materials anytime. The view is more beautiful during the night where the burning lava illuminates the surrounding of the Volcano. The mayor now wants the residents to stay at least 200 meters away from the volcano.
