Alfonso Gomez KO’s Arturo Gatti

Season-one “Contender” alumnus Alfonso Gomez knocked out the former IBF and WBC super featherweight world champion Arturo Gatti at 2:12 of the seventh round in a welterweight bout.

Gatti took a punishing flurry of punches before dropping to the canvas in round seven but mercifully the bout was halted. It was Larry Hazzard, the commissioner of the New Jersey control board, who entered the ring to stop the fight as referee Randy Neuman was counting.
