August 9, 2013 is a regular holiday in the Philippines

President Noynoy Aquino has signed Proclamation 629 declaring August 9, which falls on a Friday, as a regular holiday nationwide (walang pasok) to mark the end of Ramadan or Eid’l Fitr.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and a time of fasting for Muslims all over the world. It started in the Philippines last July 10.

“Now, therefore, I, Benigno S. Aquino III, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Friday, 9 August 2013, as a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan). The Eid’l Fitr Prayer shall be performed depending on the result of the moon-sighting activity on 7 August 2013,” part of the proclamation read.

Other holidays for this month include August 26 (Monday), National Heroes Day and August 21 (Wednesday), Ninoy Aquino Day. Plan your gimmicks accordingly.
