No Long Holiday this Halloween

Bad news for employees but November 1 will be the only holiday this halloween season. October 31 and November 2 were declared by Malacañang as regular working days. President Arroyo is known for declaring long holidays but businessmen were complaining that these long holidays are not good for business. So better cancel all those out of town trips and trick-or-treating with the kids.

Ateneo UST Game 2 Cancelled

Just heard from Magandang Umaga Pilipinas that Game 2 is cancelled and moved to October 2 September 30. This is due to typhoon Milenyo. Game 3 is set on October 2.

The Thai armed forces seized power on Tuesday without firing a shot, dismissed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s government, revoked the constitution and promised a swift return to democracy after political reforms.

General Sonthi Boonyaratglin, overwhelmingly Buddhist Thailand’s first Muslim army commander-in-chief, took the reins of power without a government title.

Batista in Manila

Wrestling superstar Batista is in Manila to promote the Smackdown Survivor Series Tour which will be on October 21 and 22 at the Araneta Coliseum. He arrived at the airport sporting his Philippine flag tattoo. Batista’s father is a Filipino while his mother is Greek. Batista’s wife is also a Filipina.


Irwin pulled barb from Chest before Death

Fatally injured by a stingray, Australian “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin pulled its serrated barb out of his chest before losing consciousness and dying, the world-famous naturalist’s manager said on Tuesday.

Video footage of the attack shows Irwin swimming above the stingray on the Great Barrier Reef on Monday when it lashed out and speared him in the heart with its barbed tail, manager John Stainton told reporters.

Mayon Volcano’s Lava Flow now a Tourist Attraction

Local residents and a couple of foreigners are going near Mayon Volcano to witness the lava flow. This is in spite of the possibility that Mayon could erupt and spew pyroplastic materials anytime. The view is more beautiful during the night where the burning lava illuminates the surrounding of the Volcano. The mayor now wants the residents to stay at least 200 meters away from the volcano.

Fernando Poe Jr: National Artist for Film

May 25th, 2006

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed Presidential Proclamation 1069 which named Poe and five more as national artists. The five other artists were Bienvenido Lumbera for Literature, Ramon Obusan for Dance, Benedicto Cabrera for Visual Arts, Ildefonso Santos for Architecture and the late Ramon Valera for Fashion Design.
