UST: 69th UAAP Men’s Basketball Champion

The 69th University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball title landed on the Tigers’ den, not on the Eagles’ nest.

University of Santo Tomas pulled off arguably one of the biggest upset in finals history, shocking top seed Ateneo de Manila University with a thrilling hard-earned 76-74 win in overtime in the deciding Game 3 Monday night at the full-house Araneta Coliseum.

Do-or-die for UST and Ateneo

The deciding Game 3 between Ateneo de Manila University and University of Santo Tomas has this underlying theme as both teams go all for the marbles Monday for the 69th University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball title.

Game time is set at 3 p.m., at the Araneta Coliseum, where the supporters of both schools are expected to fill up the venue to rafters in the winner-take-all match in hand.

Ateneo wins Game 1 in 1 second

Just a matter of second to win or lose the game

Ateneo De Manila University proved that there’s still life in a fraction of a second as it slipped past the gritty challenge of Santo Tomas U, 73-72, on Sunday’s thriller and moved one-game ahead in winning the 69th UAAP men’s basketball crown.

With Allan Evangelista almost turning hero from the eyes of the yellow and black gallery after hitting that go-ahead jumper with a tick left on the clock to give UST a 72-71 lead, Blue Eagles mentor Norman Black immediately called a timeout.

Eriberto Gejon to fight Omar Niño Romero

Eriberto “Yukka” Gejon (20-1-0, 11 KO) of Mandaue Cebu plans to avenge the defeat of Fil-am boxer and former WBC Light flyweight Champion Brian Viloria. He is scheduled to fight this year and Romero is one of his possible foes. Romero claimed the light flyweight crown from Viloria in a stunning upset last August 10.
