DFA Philippines e-passport application

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Philippines will start accepting online passport applications starting on August 26, 2009.

Interested applicants are advised to set an appointment through the DFA website (dfa.gov.ph). Take note that only passport applications for renewal will be accepted. Applicants must fill out all the required fields on the online application form at the DFA web site and the prospective applicant will be informed of his/her schedule and he/she must then confirm availability.

Requirements for e-passport application:

* Old passport
* One photocopy of old passport data page
* Valid identification card
* The duly accomplished passport application form

E-passport Philippines launched

The first e-passport with Serial Number EA0000001 was issued on Tuesday to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The e-Passport, which is currently being used in over 60 countries, is different from the machine readable passports that are currently being issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). Its security features reportedly include a hidden encoded image, an ultra-thin holographic laminate, and a tamper-proof electronic microchip that stores the passport holder’s photograph and other personal data for easy verification of identity and is fully inter-operable.

Initially, application for the ePassport, which costs 950 pesos will be on appointment basis. Full implementation of the project will take place in the next three months. Filipino passport applicants may still choose between the ePassport and the machine-readable passport (MRP).

Meanwhile, holders of the green passports need not worry as the DFA had asked the international community to still honor them until their expiration dates.

Cebu Pacific, PAL Express, and Zest Air flights cancelled due to typhoon Isang

At least 15 domestic flights were canceled Thursday due to Tropical Storm Isang, which was spotted near Casiguran town, Aurora province Thursday morning.

Cebu Pacific flights that were cancelled include 5J508 (Manila to Tuguegarao), 5J509 (Tuguegarao to Manila), 5J595 (Cebu to Davao), 5J596 (Davao to Cebu), 5J327 (Manila to Legaspi), 5J328 (Legaspi to Manila), 5J172 (Cebu to Legaspi) 5J173 (Legazpi to Cebu), 5J531 (Manila to Busuanga), 5J532 (Busuanga to Manila).

PAL Express flights PRO41 (San Jose, Mindoro to Manila and back), PR018 (Manila to Tuguegarao), and PRO19 (Tuguegarao to Manila) were also cancelled.

A Zest Air flight from Manila to Legaspi has also been cancelled.

Air Asia airline to launch Jakarta-Manila flights

Indonesia AirAsia will start daily flights from Jakarta to Manila and vice versa in September 2009.

It is set to compete with Cebu Pacific, the lone budget carrier currently servicing this route. The airline is also flying to Denpasar-Perth, Australia starting July, and Saigon, Vietnam beginning September.

Zest Air Philippines plane overshoots runway in Caticlan

A Zest Air airlines (formerly Asian Spirit) plane slipped one of its wheel when it landed causing it to overshoot Runway 6 at Caticlan airport early Thursday morning.

Its 55 passengers and 2 crew members were reportedly unhurt in the mishap. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) suspended flights to Caticlan until 6 p.m. Thursday. About thirty-two flights to Caticlan Airport were cancelled due to its closure.

Philippine Airlines will be having a promo dubbed as “Way to Go” where passengers can avail of round-trip, economy fare tickets for 20 trans-Pacific and regional routes starting at US$98 (excluding taxes).

The promo fare, which excludes government taxes, will be available for sale from June 1 to 5, 2009. The travel period is from September 1 to Dec. 25, 2009 for five trans-Pacific destinations — San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Honolulu and Vancouver. Cebu Pacific Flight Attendant Jobs in the Philippines

Cebu Pacific announced Tuesday that it is planning to hire some 250 female flight attendants this year.

The airlines’ continued domestic and international expansion and rapidly growing passenger base require them to hire and train more flight attendants.

Cebu Pacific flight attendant qualifications:

Interested female applicants aged between 18 and 25 may submit their resume with a 2×2 ID photo and credentials at the Cebu Pacific Training and Development Center in Pasay City.

Applicants must have good eyesight, a pleasing personality, a minimum height of 5′3″, and weight proportional to their height. They should also be fluent in English and Filipino, and should have at least finished their second year in college.

Applicants should also be willing to be based in Manila, Clark (Pampanga), Cebu, and Davao.

The screening of applicants is scheduled from 9AM to 4PM in Manila on May 20 and 27, and on June 3, 10, 17, and 24. In Baguio City, the screening is scheduled on May 21 in the Tuscany Room of Hotel Veniz.

DFA: Green Philippines Passports valid until their expiration date

Contrary to an alleged advisory that effective January 2010, green colored passports will no longer be honored, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday announced that green passports are valid until their expiration date.

DFA spokesman Bayani Mangibin made the clarification following an advisory allegedly issued by the travel agency section of the department that is circulating among overseas Filipinos. The advisory also said that they should apply for machine-readable passports even if their green passports have not yet expired.

“All green passports are valid until their expiration date,” Mangibin said.
