Cebu hospital apologizes for surgery video

Dr. Emmanuel Gines, media liaison officer and emergency room department head of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC), said in a radio interview that they will apologize to the 39-year-old patient identified only as Jan-Jan because of the embarrassment he suffered during the operation.

Someone inside the operating room took a video of the operation using a mobile phone. The video that runs for two minutes and 28 seconds shows an operating team of more than 10 people laughing, with someone shouting instructions while the operation was going on. All the time, the patient whose face is not visible in the video, is unconscious.

  10. kaPUPU Says:

gandako obviously di mo pa nakikita ang video. watch it and you will find the answer to your question. kitang kita kasi sa video na pinagtatawanan nila ang pasyente. at hindi lang talaga pinagtawanan kundi pinagkaguluhan pa sa pagkuha ng video. mga wala silang respeto sa pasyente. sana naman maparusahan sila. hindi pwedeng sorry lang.

  20. toink Says:

Mga walang konsensya ung mga un, sana nga marevoke mga license nila…I hope the hospital names ALL of the persons involved… pra mapahiya sila at mabawian ng license… Imagine what kind of anguish ang naramdaman nung patient… tsk tsk tsk

    The problems with some Filipinos:

    1) using YouTube for mockery and fun
    - how about using YouTube for viral marketing?

    2) goes to Internet cafes to play games and chat
    - heard about affiliate marketing while renting out a P20/hr PC?

  25. scrubnurse Says:

We had an english patient here in Bangkok who came to the ER at dawn sometime last year. He had an 8-inch carrot stuck in his behind. We treated him with full respect and as a human being. During the extraction, he even pissed due to the pain but no one laughed or made any degrading comment. It was funny how he even appollogized for the “inconvenience he caused” but hey, we were nurses with Philippine flags on our licenses. Thai nurses respected us for how we carried ourselves
(3 pinoy nurses) whe they can’t help but crack up.

It’s just sad to say that those same nurses where the ones who told us about this scandal. Even the doctors here belittled those health professionals in the video. Shame.
