Ces Drilon, TV crew kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf in Sulu?

ABS-CBN reporter Ces Drilon and two cameramen have been reportedly abducted while pursuing a story in Sulu by armed men believed to members of the Abu Sayyaf Group, police officials said.

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN has released an official statement on the incident:

Three ABS-CBN journalists Ces Drilon, Jimmy Encarnacion, and Angelo Valderama are missing in Sulu.

All efforts are underway to find them and bring them home.

Until we learn more details, ABS-CBN News requests other media to report on this matter with utmost consideration for the safety of our news team.

ABS-CBN News is in touch with the families and asks that their privacy be respected.

if i remember it right, this isn’t the first time it happened to ABS-CBN reporters. some years ago, former ABS-CBN reporter Arlyn dela Cruz and her crew were abducted in Mindanao also but they’ve fortunately been freed by their captors after several days. i hope Ces Drilon and her company shall be freed also at the soonest possible time.

Sigh. I know this is what Ces Drilon always wanted – to be in the limelight, to be the center of attraction for their bravery and courage. Well, I have my personal biases towards this TV reporter. Honestly, when I first heard of the kidnap I sai, “buti nga sa kanya.” Well I’m just being honest. Nevertheless, I still pray for their safe return to civilization and to the better world than the world of the ASG. The TV networks are limiting news release of this event to lessen whatever risk there might be. Government troops are also on their way to locate the team or contact the captors for possible negotiation.

This is not really big news. Actually I was watching Bandila last night and yes this reporter Maan Macapagal was hostaged and was released later on. The media is just making this a big issue but when I switch to Saksi I watch there Sec. Raul Gonzales telling media men that abduction is quite common. But really it’s the media’s fault they glorified this incident it should not be.
