Conchita Carpio-Morales is new Ombudsman – Philippines

President Noynoy Aquino announced the appointment of retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Conchita Carpio-Morales as new Ombudsman during PNoy’s 2nd state of the nation address (SONA 2011) on Monday.

Conchita Carpio-Morales is 70 years old and will serve a full seven-year term at the Office of the Ombudsman. She took over the post vacated by Merceditas Gutierrez who resigned from office before she was expected to face an impeachment trial at the Senate. The other nominees for the said position were Justice Undersecretary Leah T. Armamento, lawyer Gerard A. Mosquera, and former Justice Secretary, retired Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Artemio G. Tuquero.
