Friends of 20-year-old Cris Anthony Mendez have been logging on to Friendster to extend their sympathy, support and condolences.

His death, suspected to be the result of hazing, cut short his Friendster run. Mendez’ Friendster account received 59 messages from friends expressing outrage and sadness at the fate of the senior University of the Philippines (UP) public administration student, the National College of Public Administration and Governance (NCPAG) representative to the UP student council. A public administration student at UP Diliman, Mendez was brought to the hospital at 1:08 a.m. Monday. The victim bore bruises all over his body, especially on the back of his arms and thighs. Unresponsive and pale, he was declared dead on arrival by an attending doctor minutes later.
