Court convicts Joseph Carlo Candare for killing cat

University of the Philippines Physics major Joseph Carlo Candare was convicted by a Quezon City court after he pleaded guilty to violating Republic Act 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998.

Candare wrote about killing a cat in his blog entry dated April 13, 2009. Several people who witnessed the incident also testified against him. He was ordered by the court to pay a fine of 1,000 pesos and do volunteer work for Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).
