Daily Show segment calls Cory Aquino a slut
After a racial slur in a scene on the sitcom “Desperate Housewives”, now comes an insult against former president Corazon “Cory” Aquino on the political satire The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
The segment showed pictures of various women leaders including former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher, former Israeli prime minister Golda Meir and former president Aquino, whose picture had the word “slut” written on it.

Oh Holy Jesus…this is literally the first time I’m this embarassed for being a Filipino. I’m able to excuse corruption, political instability, internal warfare, everything else. But this time…it’s as if the country is where humor went to die a violent death. Is there really nothing better to do than to find things that insult us and react to it?

Arrogant American humor. Leave them the miserable creatures that they are. The more Pinoys show they’re pikon, the more Americans will make fun of you (because you’re giving them reason to). Sutil ang Kano eh, tapos ang Pinoy pikon naman. Don’t be too sensitive. Wag niyo naman palakihin ang di naman problema. Pasok sa isang tenga, labas sa kabila.
I mean hello, they voted for BUSH a second time. What does that say about them? >.>

Don’t Filipinos have anything better to worry about? Why don’t you take your frustrations out on something else. The Daily Show is a political satire show hello? And it’s on comedy central not cnn. Jon Stewart is one of the smartest comedians in the US. For crying out loud, Filipinos pride themselves on having a sense of humor and being funny but once somebody pokes fun at them, they’ll get all crazy on your ass like they’re off-limits. I bet had the joke been meant for a different ethnic group or nationality, they would not have had any problem with it.

To address Karlo’s comment:
We all know that Jon Steward’s show is a politic satire. However, i believe that there are limitations to how one can make a mockery of another. And this is not just any “another”. This is Cory Aquino, a very well-respected woman who have significantly changed on how Philippines is now. To insult her is to insult the whole nation.
In addition, i believe that this issue is not just about Cory Aquino but also about the other admirable woman involved, namely Margaret Thatcher and Golda Meir.

If you all know that “The Daily Show” is a satirical program. Why are you people not getting the joke in this? It’s all an irony and not an insult. Don’t you people also make mockery of her on your television shows? Hello… this is the reason why I get so embarassed to have Filipino-blood. You all are over sensitive-up-to-no-good bunch of people… there are more things you should be focusing about, like poverty and corruption…and oh yah to the one who commented: “A very well respected woman who have significantly changed on how the Philippines is now”… wow! that was some change… poverty, unemployment, and corruption plus a repeat of presidential ousting, you guys have done a very well job in keeping the country intact (sarcsam, in case you guys won’t get it)… and yah we (but not me) might have voted for Bush (sadly a Harvard graduate),but you guys elected ERAP (a college reject)

It was meant to be funny but some if not most of the Filipinos are not laughing about it. After all, they are still a little irked about the “Desperate Housewives” drama. However, it seems like a lot of these comments focus more on how some hate Jon Stewart and how some hate how the Filipinos react. Filipinos have pride like most other nationalities and sometimes that’s all what most of them have. It took a filipino revolution to topple a dictator and elect Ms. Cory Aquino. So give the former president some respect not for what she’s done but for what she stood for.
Just my 2 cents…it’s nothing against jon stewart or the daily show but for those who criticize the Filipinos for being a little sensitive? Why don’t you try to be sensitive sometimes?
