Daily Show segment calls Cory Aquino a slut
After a racial slur in a scene on the sitcom “Desperate Housewives”, now comes an insult against former president Corazon “Cory” Aquino on the political satire The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
The segment showed pictures of various women leaders including former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher, former Israeli prime minister Golda Meir and former president Aquino, whose picture had the word “slut” written on it.

Dear God in Heaven… and the parade of the hypersensitive overly-literal Filipinos who don’t get the joke rolls on.

Oh Holy Jesus…this is literally the first time I’m this embarassed for being a Filipino. I’m able to excuse corruption, political instability, internal warfare, everything else. But this time…it’s as if the country is where humor went to die a violent death. Is there really nothing better to do than to find things that insult us and react to it?

“where humor went to die a violent death…” love that line!

Arrogant American humor. Leave them the miserable creatures that they are. The more Pinoys show they’re pikon, the more Americans will make fun of you (because you’re giving them reason to). Sutil ang Kano eh, tapos ang Pinoy pikon naman. Don’t be too sensitive. Wag niyo naman palakihin ang di naman problema. Pasok sa isang tenga, labas sa kabila.
I mean hello, they voted for BUSH a second time. What does that say about them? >.>

Don’t Filipinos have anything better to worry about? Why don’t you take your frustrations out on something else. The Daily Show is a political satire show hello? And it’s on comedy central not cnn. Jon Stewart is one of the smartest comedians in the US. For crying out loud, Filipinos pride themselves on having a sense of humor and being funny but once somebody pokes fun at them, they’ll get all crazy on your ass like they’re off-limits. I bet had the joke been meant for a different ethnic group or nationality, they would not have had any problem with it.

hey miron, if your mother is in cory’s shoes, wouldn’t you demand for an apology? KOLONYAL! PLASTIK!

To address Karlo’s comment:
We all know that Jon Steward’s show is a politic satire. However, i believe that there are limitations to how one can make a mockery of another. And this is not just any “another”. This is Cory Aquino, a very well-respected woman who have significantly changed on how Philippines is now. To insult her is to insult the whole nation.
In addition, i believe that this issue is not just about Cory Aquino but also about the other admirable woman involved, namely Margaret Thatcher and Golda Meir.

If you all know that “The Daily Show” is a satirical program. Why are you people not getting the joke in this? It’s all an irony and not an insult. Don’t you people also make mockery of her on your television shows? Hello… this is the reason why I get so embarassed to have Filipino-blood. You all are over sensitive-up-to-no-good bunch of people… there are more things you should be focusing about, like poverty and corruption…and oh yah to the one who commented: “A very well respected woman who have significantly changed on how the Philippines is now”… wow! that was some change… poverty, unemployment, and corruption plus a repeat of presidential ousting, you guys have done a very well job in keeping the country intact (sarcsam, in case you guys won’t get it)… and yah we (but not me) might have voted for Bush (sadly a Harvard graduate),but you guys elected ERAP (a college reject)

It was meant to be funny but some if not most of the Filipinos are not laughing about it. After all, they are still a little irked about the “Desperate Housewives” drama. However, it seems like a lot of these comments focus more on how some hate Jon Stewart and how some hate how the Filipinos react. Filipinos have pride like most other nationalities and sometimes that’s all what most of them have. It took a filipino revolution to topple a dictator and elect Ms. Cory Aquino. So give the former president some respect not for what she’s done but for what she stood for.
Just my 2 cents…it’s nothing against jon stewart or the daily show but for those who criticize the Filipinos for being a little sensitive? Why don’t you try to be sensitive sometimes?

Well, that’s the problem with Pinoys. They have no culture, no language & thus no respect. EVERYTHING, it’s either they follow the Spanish (culture, name & religion) or they follow the Americans (language & culture). Where is your own culture & language??? English is the main language in Philippine. Not everyone in Philippine know how to speak Tagalog. & Pinoys always worship anything American & Spanish, that you guys forget ur own roots. Where as the Spanish & American were they ones that rape your women, kill your men & enslave your people. & you guys don’t FIGHT, like how the Vietnameses kick the American asses. When the Vietnamese kick American asses in the Vietnam war, everyone in the world respect the Vietnamese, even though they are Americans. As a result of the War, the Vietnamese people BREAK their colonial mentality, & are damn proud of their own LANGUAGE, CULTURE, NAME & RELIGION. Even though Philippine were independent in 1946 & Vietnam only independent in 1976, look at how Vietnam is compare to the Philippine. Economically, politically & militarily, Vietnam is much better than the Philippine, although Philippine had a head start of more than 30 years compare to Vietnam. How come? It’s all in your mentality. Vietnamese are damn proud of themselves, their own LANGUAGE, CULTURE, NAME & RELIGION. Whereas, for Pinoy, it’s either Spanish or American. Your Pinoy singers singing Tagalog also are view inferior compare to the ones singing in English. How come?

@vietkong,
My apologies for the typo – I meant your were just BITTER. NOT better. Sheesh. What was my finger doing? It’s probably cause my middle finger was pointed at your post. Hahahahahaha – Did you get that? Bwahahahahahaha
One other thing, about our singers? Uh, you guys suck at it. Sorry, but we’re also better looking. Hahahahahaha
August 6th, 2009 at 12:19 am
Okay first and foremost… I dont think that “Vietkong” has any idea of what he or she is spewing out of his or her mouth. We Filipinos are damn proud of where we came from and we have our very own unique culture that strongly lives on through new FILIPINO generations. You say we are whores to the spaniards and the americans??? But sir, didn’t you know that we kicked them out of our country because we love democracy so much and we are naturally a race of independent and freedom loving people and we dont want other races running our beloved country. I will not say SHIT about you and your race CAUSE I DONT THINK ITS GOING TO BE WORTH MY TIME TRYING TO BASH SOMETHING I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT… did you even realized that none of the thing you said on your uneducated post is true. It’s as if you read a couple of sentences about the Philippines and concluded on a retarded conclusion. You are a disgrace as a human being in general. Before you judge someone or some race go look at yourself and your “race” in the mirror and you will realize the ugly truth. The very UGLY TRUTH!! lets put it this way the ONLY SIGNIFICANT thing that happened in your country(Vietnam) is a WAR YOUR OWN RACE STARTED (a bloody and senseless warif i may add) and has to be fixed or atleast they tried, by the americans. But our culture is so rich even BEFORE the 300 years of colonization by the spanish and at least a decade of by the americans. And as an evolving “normal” sentient beings. Filipinos harnessed our culture and the other cultures and made something better out of it. But! that doesn’t mean that we dont have our own because we HAVE OUR OWN THING GOING ON. I will judge you now and forgive me if i do… I think that you my friend, are JEALOUS… you know what? i dont care and i mean it! forget i said an apology cause i MEAN IT! Filipinos have more to offer locally and internationally that any of your whole race combined. NOW i know i’am a little harsh but “Vietkong” pressed a button on me that made me explode in anger! THATS WHAT FILIPINOS ARE! YOU TRY AND THREATEN OR EVEN MAKE FUN OF WHAT WE ARE AND WE WILL REACT AGAINST YOU! that’s why Lapu-Lapu killed Magellan for trying to force catholicism to the Filipino people centuries ago…LONG LIVE THE PHILIPPINES!!! MABUHAY AND SAMBAYANANG PILIPINAS!!! MARAMING SALAMAT TITA CORY!! SA DEMOKRASYANG INYONG IPINAMANA SA AMIN! ITO AY AMING AALAGAAN AT PAGYAYAMANIN!! PILIPINO! PILIPINO!! PILIPINO!!!! PILIPINO!!!!!!
August 6th, 2009 at 12:29 am
If you guys think that my post above was too long. That’s just me being extremely passionate about my beloved Philippines. As the late Corazon Aquino said during her speech in front of the US congress after the very famous bloodless people power revolution against a brutal dictator, Some countries reject the idea of freedom but we, The Filipino People want it and would do anything just to achieve it.
I think thats what sets us apart from other races, we LOVE FREEDOM!!!! WE LOVE LIFE!!! MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS!
August 6th, 2009 at 8:43 am
no comment…. no one is perfect even if your an AMERICAN!… you can also fall down!
August 6th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
vietkong, the issue is about cory being called a slut and not about your country. stay on topic. Unfortunately, having a superiority complex also diminishes the capacity to read and write in English.
November 18th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
isa sa mga magaling at marangal na presidente si dating pangulong Cory Aquino. sana magkaroon pa ng presidente na katulad niya.
