The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has started issuing machine-readable passports for senior citizens and Overseas Filipino workers.
The maroon-coloured machine-readable passports compared to the old green hand-scripted passport has “fool-proof” security features to discourage tampering. “The issuance of the machine-readable passport is part of the contingency plan of the DFA since there are only enough green passports for issue until June this year,” said a DFA official requesting anonymity.
