Filipino boxer Tañamor, other hopefuls’ medal bid ends – 2008 Beijing Olympics Update

Four of our Filipino athletes lost in their respective events, which dealt heavy blows to our quest for our first Olympic gold in the ongoing 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Boxer Harry Tañamor lost to Ghana’s Manyo Plange, 6-3, in the men’s light flyweight (48kg) event held at the Worker’s Gymnasium. Filipino archer Mark Javier was also eliminated from competition after losing against Chinese Taipei’s Kuo Cheng Wei in the men’s individual Round of 32 eliminations with a score of 106-102. Filipino swimmers Christel Simms and Miguel Molina were also eliminated from their Wednesday events. Now it’s up to taekwondo jins Toni Rivero and Tshomlee Go to get that elusive gold. They will see action on August 21.
