Filipino boxer Tañamor, other hopefuls’ medal bid ends - 2008 Beijing Olympics Update

Four of our Filipino athletes lost in their respective events, which dealt heavy blows to our quest for our first Olympic gold in the ongoing 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Boxer Harry Tañamor lost to Ghana’s Manyo Plange, 6-3, in the men’s light flyweight (48kg) event held at the Worker’s Gymnasium. Filipino archer Mark Javier was also eliminated from competition after losing against Chinese Taipei’s Kuo Cheng Wei in the men’s individual Round of 32 eliminations with a score of 106-102. Filipino swimmers Christel Simms and Miguel Molina were also eliminated from their Wednesday events. Now it’s up to taekwondo jins Toni Rivero and Tshomlee Go to get that elusive gold. They will see action on August 21.

Its a wake up call to our government. let’s support naman our athletes, we have 4 years to prepare and they should have 4 years to support by our government. Tapos we are giggling to get the medal, medal should be earned. I cant help but to dissapoint, look at the small-populated country like taipe, thailand, indonesia, korea, japan etc. bakit sila meron, tayo wala?

Anyway hopeful pa rin ako. Go! go! Philippines!

    sorry nega ako ngayon

GO pa rin team PHILIPPINES !!!!

  15. baldo Says:

  16. Serenata Says:

    .nkakawala na ng pag-asa
pero cguro d rin nman ginus2

  18. Reaverjam Says:

    Oy Serenata!!!!!

  19. the bus driver Says:

Lately I find the Olympics non-interesting sports event. At first we have fine athletes i.e. Manny Pacquiao, Paeng Nepomuceno, etc. and yet we are not giving them a shot to the Olympics. Thought they are professional, but what the NBA stars doing there?

I am amazed also on China and South Korea. Discipline is the key, to glory…..

  20. Recko mamboooo Says:

I wonder why until now billiards and snooker is still not part of the olympics??????
are they afraid that Philippines will have dynasty in this event?

ang style kasi dito sa pinas support comes right after you are successful…but before you are successful you are on your own…sana naman mag padala tayo nang marami sa mga qualifying tournaments para maraming chances na mag qualify tayo para sa olympics… hindi lang 1 or 2 per game…nakakahiya ang government natin talo tayo sa thailand at indonasia…..

  21. GMA Sikat Says:

  24. Roy Focker Says:

Our Olympic performance is a reflection of how our government is running the country…
we cant say “sports lang yan”"kasi matangkad sila”..its a matter of pure support and sending more talents to qualify in some events..kaya ng governo natin to send 100 athletes in the olympics if given 100 athletes to qualify in several events…but we never sent more than enough athletes to qualify for any events…. too sad…barat kasi sa travel expenses. pati allownace nila binarat din..kawawa yung mga athletes natin.

  25. Roy Focker Says:

  28. tsktsktsk Says:

    hopeless

  29. posh Says:

its not about winning. totoo naman po yung mga snsbe ny0.. sana lang magkaron ng concern ang government ntin. why dont you guys send this to one of the gov officials bec0z its a good thing na rin para malaman nila yung mga reactions at mga opinions ng mamayan ng gov na pinanghahawakan nila. thanks. ill visit this site sooner or later. :D
