Filipinos in UK want BBC’s apology for racist skit on Harry and Paul
Filipinos in the United Kingdom condemned a BBC sketch comedy for airing a skit that is considered demeaning to Filipino domestic helpers.
The assailed skit, aired in the September 26 episode of “Harry and Paul,” showed comedian Harry Enfield telling a postman that he is ordering his Filipino maid to mate with his friend Paul Whitehouse.
Filipino leaders denounced the comedy act as racist and said it promotes sexual exploitation and demeans the image of Pinay domestic helpers.
Other Filipinos in the UK said the BBC comedy scene was even worse than the episode of American TV series “Desperate Housewives”, which questioned the ability of Filipino medical graduates.

Siyempre naooffend din ako kapag inaalipusta o binabastos ang mga Filipino ng ibang lahi pero tingin ko masyado naman tayong sensitive at sobra kung makapag-react.
Sigurado magpoprotesta nanaman ang mga Filipinos nito. Kung ganon, e di dapat magprotesta din ang mga Indians and Arabs laban sa mga Filipino kasi parati silang dinedepict sa mga tv shows and movies natin na mabantot? O kaya mga negro dahil parating pinagkakatuwaan ang kulay nila? O kaya mga Chinese na halos parating druglord, evil businessman o leader ng sindikato ang role?
TV show lang ang Harry and Paul. Tapos comedy pa! Kalma lang.

so what kung pango ang ilong naten..? basihan ba yun para maging isang mabuting tao ka? Pilipino tayo. Bakit natin hahayaan na bastusin tayo ng mga ibang lahi? Bakit ka papayag? And kung walang medal? So? Sana sumama ka pra makakuha ka ng medal para sa pinakaignorateng tao sa buong mundo.

natural lang naman mag-react ang mga concern o tunay na pinoy sa isip at diwa,ang reaction ay isang interaction ng isang may buhay na lalang laban man o hindi sa sarili..natural sa isang tao o lalang na may kunsensya o wala,ngayon kung hindi tayo magrereact o kokontra o proprotesta sa pagsikil o paninira o pambabastos sa atin..o ating lahi ,na lahi ng mga ninuno at mga magulang natin..sino pa ang magtatanggol o tatayo para sa atin at kailan pa..pag kalat na ang lason ng pangaapi…kaya para sa aking opinyon ..iprotesta natin ang pagmamalabis nilang ito laban sa atin!

kailangan ding magapologize o humingi ng paumanhin ang bbc pati sina harry at paul..sa aking palagay habang pinababayaan natin sila na bastusin o gawan tayo ng anumang di karapatdapat na bagay sa salita at gawa…ay patuloy at paulitulit tayong bababuyin ng mga mapangaping iyan…gusto ba natin na ang ating mga magulang ,kapatid o magiging mga anak natin ay gawan o pagsabihan,o bastusin sa hinaharap at darating pang mga araw at panahon?

i can’t believe you guys. considering you’re filipinos. i really think culture is the real difference here. We, filipinos, are very conservative about these kinds of sutff and UK, (europe) and other western coutries on the other hand are more liberated. I can say that we are sometimes hypocrite. The real issue here is respect, filipinos found the “joke” disrespectful and i dont see the reason why they shouldn’t. Especially if your mom or dad is working abroad. but we really have to put this kinds of issues into perspective and not let these affect us. We know what’s true and what’s not. sometimes we subconsciously forget our nationality and the fact that we need these issues to remind us of it, is just sad. i am a filipino and it’s enough reason to love my own country. saying that if you we’re given a chance to be reborn again, you would not choose to be a filipino is like saying to your mother that if you were to be born again, you would not choose her. if you dont like being a filipino, TRUE FRIEND you dont have to be. this country doesnt need you anyways..

..im a filipino and i am proud to be one….but i noticed some of our kababayan started scenes outside our country para madiscriminate…sana naman wag ganun..nagpunta tayo ng ibang bansa para magtrabaho hindi para sirain ang buhay at pangalan natin right….and to those other nationalities, they much look at theirself in the mirror before doing anything to others..hmp
