Globe Mobile TV versus Smart MyTV

Globe Telecom now also has a mobile TV service called Globe Mobile TV.

But unlike Smart MyTV that as of now is limited to the Nokia N92 handset, Globe Mobile TV will work with most 3G or 3G/HSDPA handsets that can place video calls (even with 1 or 2 cameras). Available channels are ABS-CBN, GMA, CNN, theHub, and Sports. For more information on this new service from Globe, go to http://www1.globe.com.ph/feature.aspx?artid=73 and for Smart MyTV go to http://www.smart.com.ph/Gold/FAQs/myTV_FAQs.htm.

Globe is just doing video streaming over 3G, which all providers have been doing for some time. But they’re charging you a premium rate of P5 per minute to do it. That’s P300 for a hour show. Heh.

Smart’s myTV is better because they are transmitting the TV signal to a DVB-H antennae on the Nokia N92. Currently Nokia has 2 phones that have a tv receiver – N77 & N92. The difference is in SMART’s offering you are receiving the TV program much like a regular TV.

Globe streams video thru 3G, so you are charged on usage– it is metered. While Smart’s service is a flat-rate of 488, because they use the tv antennae on the phone. They do not stream it as data packets. So there is a difference and Globe is behind Smart on mobile TV.
