This is their third fight where the first and second bouts ended in a loss and a majority draw, respectively. The second fight, however, was later pronounced a no-contest after Romero tested positive for the illegal drug methamphetamine.
In the undercard fights, Filipino Rodel Mayol (31-5-2, 22 KOs) beat Mexican Julio Cesar â€œPingoâ€ Miranda (37-7-1, 29 KOs) via unanimous decision — 100-87, 99-90, 97-91.
WBO Oriental bantamweight champion Filipino Dayer Gabutan a.k.a. Gabutan D. Singwancha (18-1-2, 8 KOs) beat Filipino Dado Cabintoy (9-3-2, 4 KOs) via unanimous decision to retain his title.
Last but not the least, the fight between Filipino boxers Robert Udtuhan (17-1-2, 13 KOs) and Alvin Makiling (9-4-2, 2 KOs) ended in a draw.
