MacBook Air in the Philippines
Apple just released the MacBook Air which they claim is the world’s thinnest notebook.

It is 0.76″ thick at the thickest part, tapering to 0.16″. It weighs 3 pounds and has a 13.3″ screen and full-size, backlit keyboard. Its Intel chip is the diameter of a dime and the thickness of a nickel. Its storage is either 80 GB disk or 64 GB solid-state drive. 2 GB of memory. It has no optical drive (an external one is available for $99) and features a way to wirelessly use the optical drive of any nearby Mac or PC with the proper software installed. The 1.6 GHz, 80GB HDD will be priced at (just our estimate) about 94,500 pesos while the 1.8 GHz, 64GB solid-state drive (SSD) will be priced at 163,000 pesos.

this product was made for people who are always on the go.
i don’t think it takes much time to have to use a cd. so i’m okay with that.
and it says that you can wirelessly access a cd from another mac or pc.
i think the biggest problem i have with this product is that it only has one USB port
but that can easily be resolved.
too bad it’s very expensive though. the wireless capabilities are all good but a macbook or a macbook pro will do just as nicely, i think

well. sa 1799$ sakto lng price nya 70k+ for a mac w/ a great cpu power and features other laptops kc costs much more or the same from other companies.. if im gonna buy one id buy air rather than sony’s vaio .

I find this really portable because its lightweight and convenient. However, this lacks features such as enough USB slots (having one for all slots), no slot for ethernet connection and some other limitations such as an raised monitor (you will see the problem when it tilts such as when you are using it on an airplane). This is a good buy when you need ease, convenience and beauty in your laptop,. However, in terms of connectivity and performace, this is not the right laptop for you

Common gripes about the new Macbook:
1) 1 USB port - then again, how many devices do find yourself attaching to your laptop anyway? the only thing i can think of is an [extra] external HD or flash drive, w/c is an example of a situation i find myself in.
2) No CD drive - again, ask yourself this: just when do you find yourself having the need to use/insert a CD in your macbook? I dont think that there’s still a lot of people uses CDs as data storage anymore like a diskette.. they use flash drives.
The only time i see myself having to insert a CD is when i’m installing a s.ware/program.. and how often do you install programs anyway on your notebook that requires a CD? Most s.wares these days can just be downloaded (esp. the free ones).
3) Ethernet port - well again, as far as portability (read: away from home/office) is concerned, there are plenty of wifi hotspots nowadays. Almost every place where you’d find wired internet connectivity probably already has wifi access too, so why bother with the cable? Lastly, if your only option is indeed wired broadband, there’s the optional ethernet adapter available for it w/c cost only roughly around P800… not that pricey, right? :)

my apologies for the grammar above (some words got lost during editing/typing).. ^_^
Also, correction on #3 to “No ethernet port”
As a final note: i dont think that the Macbook Air was made for the average/casual mobile POWER user. Its a Mac after all, its the design. With MacAir, compact & portability is what they aimed for, and thats what you/we get. Sure there were trade offs but hey, compare that with the competition (other brands), i’d say they pulled it off pretty well. :)

-agree ako jan… pang Gay thing lang kc ang mac. Photo editing and web browsing lang…
Dapat nga lagyan pa nila ng dial-up port eh.. nyahaha
for ur info:
Mac OS X Leopard is derived from various sources like FreeBSD as a reference code base for its BSD derivations. Sa madaling salita OpenSource sila and Unix base. Ewan ko ba dapat wala silang karapatan ibenta ang Mac OS X Leopard nila dahil nanggaling sa open source. Pero according sa wikipidia, pinagsamang BSD/Unix + technology nila… bla bla…
isa pang nakakbadtrip sa mac, ung right click. Bakit ayaw ng Steve lagyan ng right click… hay… =))
ok, right now, naka dual both ako sa XP sp3 + FreeBSD (Mac OS Leopard Look-a-like) running at Core 2 3G + 4G DDR2
so, may Mac OS X Leopard din ako runnung to may Intel base PC, ung lang nga derived ko naman un… lol
