Magnitude 7.7 earthquake hits area near Eastern Samar

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck the eastern part of the Philippines at 8:47PM, August 31.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the epicenter of the quake is at 112 km S 78°E of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

A tsunami alert level 3 is currently raised on the following areas:

Northern Samar
Eastern Samar
Southern Leyte
Surigao del Norte
Surigao del Sur

If you have relatives, friends, or loved ones that are living in those areas, please advice them to evacuate on higher grounds as a precaution. Evacuation to a 10-meter high elevation is recommended.

Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum added that aftershocks are expected. Keep safe everyone and pray.
