More (paid) holidays is good for labor although not as good for business. In the long run, I believe it will be good for the economy.
The US economy is good because it is grounded on a strong middle class, which in turn is the outcome of pro-labor policies that started with the New Deal program of Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1930s. Binabalik ni Obama ang policies na yun (less taxes for middle income earners and the like) as part of his economic stimulus package. That seems to be the difference between Democrats (pro-labor, pro-poor) and Republicans (pro-business, pro-rich).
I’m not a big fan of GMA, but she seems to be starting to subscribe to the Democratic formula. For that I commend her. We Filipinos should really learn from the American example.

hooray for the callcenter agents!
daming double pay! yahoo!
December 27th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
If I’m not mistaken, double-pay (200% of your computed daily rate) is fixed already every year because they apply to Legal Holidays only, and the one that’s “actually more” this year would be the extra “Special Holidays” (130% of your computed daily rate) instead! : )
