Columnist-TV host Cristy Fermin faces another libel case, this time filed by former actor and Caloocan City Mayor Rey Malonzo before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office.
The 2-million peso libel case stemmed from Fermin’s article on July 8, 2008 in the tabloid “Bulgar” accusing Malonzo of threatening the life of businesswoman Cristina Decena. Decena was also named defendant in the case.
In said article, Fermin wrote that Decena went to the Makati police station on July 7, 2008 to report the alleged threat of Malonzo to her life; that Malonzo and Decena were used to be business partners, but their relationship became sour when the former mayor allegedly failed to pay the interest of the properties he pawned to her; and that Malonzo allegedly was also harassing Decena’s elder child through text messages.
