Marian Rivera as Darna on GMA-7

GMA-7′s SVP for Entertainment TV Wilma Galvante reportedly announced that Marian Rivera will play the popular Pinay superhero Darna in its return to primetime TV.

Marian Rivera was surprised and delighted by the news. “Hindi ko ito alam. Akala ko may pag-uusapan lang na new project. Yun pala, may surprise sila sa akin. Maraming salamat sa GMA-7 at patuloy ang tiwala nila sa akin.” she said.

Other actresses who played the Filipino superheroine in TV and movies include Rosa del Rosario, Liza Moreno, Eva Montes, Gina Pareño, Vilma Santos, Rio Locsin, Lorna Tolentino, Nanette Medved, Anjanette Abayari, and Angel Locsin.

Marian is currently busy with the primetime series “Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang” opposite Dingdong Dantes.
