The Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) chose Filipino-Americans, swimmer Miguel Molina and world boxing champion Nonito Donaire as the 2007 Athletes of the Year.
Molina won four gold medals at the Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) in Thailand last December and he also qualified for the Beijing Olympics in August. Donaire, on the other hand, snatched the IBF and IBO world boxing titles from the then undefeated Vic Darchinyan of Australia. Others athletes that received honors were Donnie Nietes for winning the world title in the minimum weight division last December, AJ Banal as boxing’s new rising star, and John Baylon for winning his eighth straight SEAG gold medal in judo.
