National Artist Lucrecia Kasilag passes away

National Artist for Music and former Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) president Lucrecia Roces Kasilag passed away Saturday night in her house in Paco, Manila due to a lingering illness.

She was 90 years old. Her career was marked by awards and honors, the greatest of which was being named National Artist in Music in 1989. Her work consisted of more than 200 original compositions, incorporating elements of world music to enrich Filipino national traditions. She also incorporated indigenous Filipino instruments in orchestral productions.
