Nonito Donaire beats Luis Maldonado in 8 rounds

Filipino IBF/IBO flyweight champion Nonito Donaire Jr. (19-1-1, 12KOs) successfully defended his titles for the first time by scoring an eighth round knockout against Mexican challenger Luis Maldonado (37-2-1, 28KOs) at the Foxwood Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

Prior to his successful title defense, Donaire by scoring an upset over Australian-based Armenian Vic Darchinyan via a fifth-round knockout. Donaire earlier said he has plans to move up into the super flyweight or bantamweight division, if he successfully defends his titles.
