25-year-old Filipino boxer Nonito Donaire retained his IBF/IBO flyweight crown Saturday by defeating Moruti Mthalane of South Africa via sixth-round technical knockout at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Referee Joe Cortez stopped the fight at 1:31 of Round 6 because of a cut above Mthalane’s left eye that opened when Donaire caught him with a straight right. Donaire improved to 20-1, with 13 KOs. With the win, “The Filipino Flash” is reportedly eyeing to climb up to the star-studded super flyweight division next year.
