November 7 2011 Holiday – Philippines

President Noynoy Aquino has signed Proclamation No. 276 making November 7, which falls on a Monday as regular holiday (walang pasok).

The move was in observation of Eid’l Adha, the Muslim celebration commemorating the willingness of Abraham (Ibrahim) to sacrifice his son Ishmael (Isma’il) as an act of obedience to God. Earlier, PNoy also declared October 31 a special non-working holiday to give Filipinos a chance to go their respective provinces to honor their dead.

Why does the government declare Eid’l Adha as a holiday in the Philippines when this celebration concerns only to the Muslim world? Not all Christians I believe agree with
Abraham’s sacrificing Ishmael because it was Isaac who was offered by Abraham as a sacrifice in obedience to God’s command according to the Bible. Declaring it as a holiday should be confined to places where the Muslims live. This is purely a Muslim holiday. Correct me if I am wrong please!
