The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is set to ask Malacañang to declare the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on October 25, 2010 a holiday.

“Kapag halalan po, dini-declare po na holiday iyan. Hihingi tayo ng isang EO para maging holiday ang election day,” Comelec spokesman James Jimenez reportedly said. October 25 falls on a Monday so if the EO pushes through then it will be another long holiday in the Philippines. Update October 25, 2010 was already declared a non-working holiday.
