An Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) was arrested by airport policemen for making a “grenade joke” while at the final stage of security procedures at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.
The OFW was identified as Joel Laurente (some reports say Joel Gonzales), 40, of Mambog, Bacoor Cavite province. Laurente allegedly cracked the joke when he was asked by the staff manning the X-ray machine about the dark images that appeared on the computer screen. Laurente, in a loud voice, reportedly responded “it’s a grenade.” He was immediately arrested for violation of Presidential Decree 1727, which declares as unlawful the malicious dissemination of false information or willful making of any threat concerning bombs, explosives or any similar device or means of destruction.
