PBA suspends Wynne Arboleda for hitting Smart-Gilas fan
Burger King Whoppers point guard Wynne Arboleda has been suspended by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) without pay for the rest of the 2009-10 season for attacking a fan in last Friday’s game where BK was up against Smart-Gilas Pilipinas.
Arboleda admitted that he lost his temper after being heckled by Smart-Gilas fan Alain Katigbak who was seated at the special ringside section across the Whoppers’ bench. He later issued a public apology to Katigbak. Katigbak, for his part, said that he is ready to file a case of physical injuries against the Arboleda.

Guys…ako, in the part of Wynne, kakaawa rin cya. Naglalaro yung tao ng maayos, although, sabihin na naten na sahod yung ginawa nya, kasama sa laro yun eh. Sa susunod siguro, kung manonood kayo ng PBA ringside, iwasan naten yung magcomment ng offensive sa player. Tao rin nman cla, nasasaktan rin ang damdamin ng mga yan, at ginagawa nila yung paglalaro ng basketball para may kainin ang mga pamilya nila. Kung i-li-lifetime ban naten c Wynne, parang inalisan na rin naten cya ng karapatan bilang isang tao. At sa mga players naman, focus lang sa laro, wag na intindihin ang mga fans, cguro after the game na lang magreact. Dapat may punching bag sa tabi ng court para dun nila ibuhos ang galit nila. Pareho lang may mali. Ang kelangan naten RESPETO sa isa’t-isa. Wag pairalin ang init ng ulo, impluwensya, at pera. IGALANG lang naten ang karapatan ng bawat isa…hindi lang c Wynne ang may mali, PAREHO sila. Wala dapat magdemanda. Dahil PAREHO cla may MALI. :)

Kung ayaw ng mga player na me mga ganong fans, better na magbasketball sila sa walang tao. Sila sila na lang. Ang NBA nga gumagastos para sa mga ads, to attract fans. Iba talaga yung dati na Crispa-Toyota. Ganon talaga yun me mga die hard fans na me emotion din na gustong manalo ang kanilang team.

the ban on wynne arboleda for his vicious actions on and off the court are justified. i dont care what the fan said. you do not attack a person just because he cursed at you. salita lang yon! your life was not being threatened in any way. kung minura siya, eh di murahin din niya. wag naman niya i-flying kick yung tao tapos his whole team was behind him to offer support (m. yee, i’m referring to you!).
and because he’s banned for ONE season, kawawa siya? maghanap kaya siya ng trabaho! like you and me — we are all not basketball players but we are able to support ourselves. hindi siya handicapped or banned from accepting a desk job. hindi ako naaawa sa kanya. he can find other ways of supporting his family.

maayos bas yong nag flagrant foul ka? 1st he hits casio in the face tas si baracael pano kung na lumpo yong bata? pano yung career nya? kung fan kayo ni wynne sana alam nyo ang mali sa tama…first sa pba history ang manakit ng ganun sa fan mas mabuti pa yung suntukin mo another player or referee eh… they should be role models for the kids dba? kung ako ang anak ni wynne lalayas nalang ako kasi kakahiya ang tatay ko… matagal kana sa league lahat ng mura at pambabastos naririnig mo palage..dahil ba asawa nya ang anak ng owner ng bk..mang gugulpi nlang sya? to top it all tama lang ang hatol sa kanya. mag boxing nlang sya kung gus2 nya..he’s a disgrace.

as playe, di mo rin masisisi sil asa pressure na nakaatang sa kanila. kahit sino pagsobra na ang pambabastos at panlalait lalo na kasama na ang pamilya, you cannot blame them for losing their temper, ksi kung nasa court ka di ka namakaisisp ng iba at iisipin mo kung paano kayo manalo.
may pagkakamali din ang fan, malaki dahil sya ang dahilan ng lahat, sana maging responsible din tayong mga fans at wag din tayo padadala sa ating mga emosyon. manood lang tayo kasi kung may mangyari sa atin di tayo sasagutin ng mga teams o player na ating hinahangaan.
at sana bigger fines na lang wag ng whole season ang ipataw ng commission. sa kay katigbak sana patawarin nya na lang si arboleda kasi sya din naman ang pinagmulan ng lahat.

it was not just wynne arboleda’s fault. both of them committed mistake so u cant blame just one person here. as a player, u shouldnt get intimidated by those fans that keeps on using foul words. remeber, ur a professional player and that’s part of being with the PBA. for the fan, its not right as well to use those foul words no matter which side were u in especially if your sitting right across the opponent’s side. JUST PLAY WELL FOR YOUR FANS AND WATCH RESPONSIBLY PEOPLE.

Wynne aka the player should have kept his anger in check, nasa trabaho sya at customer nya yung inupakan nya. Although no one has the right to curse at anyone, basketball player or not, he should have exercised restraint and better judgment or dapat inabangan nalang nya sa parking lot hehe. Pero mukhang overboard naman ang hatol ni commish.
Katigbak aka the heckler, probably learned an important life lesson, IF YOU TALK THE TALK YOU BETTER WALK THE WALK. This Katigbak fellow was probably cursing the hell out of Arboleda, courtside no less! I mean, to all you MEN out there, if some dude repeatedly called your mother a whore for no personal reason, what would you do about it? Those are fighting words, if you throw those words around, you better know how to back it up! But not this Katigbak fellow, when Arboleda came in and brought the thunder, he just curled himself up in a fetal position no less, he could have at least TRIED, especially after all his cursing. At least those hapless hecklers back at the Palace in Auburn Hills Michigan went toe to toe with a pissed off 6′7″ 275 pound Ron Artest. MAN UP! Kung hindi naman pala nya kaya then Katigbak shouldnt have been cursing at Arboleda. Doesn’t make any sense. He was lucky that Arboleda wasnt able to get a good solid blow. And he should be MAN ENOUGH to NOT press any charges, he started it and now that he gets humiliated in front of the whole world he goes and hide behind Lady Justice’s skirt? Please.
Man up Katigbak. Arboleda issued his apologies, you should too.

Fans, those ballers are out to play ball for our enjoyment, not for emotionally unstable fans to curse at. Mga tao rin yan sila. Kung hindi nyo gusto ang nangyayari, hwag kayong manood, hindi naman kayo pinipilit. The refs and officials are there to take care of the players, manood nalang tayo.

Tama lang ginawa ni commissioner, kahit sang laro me mga fans na die hard at yan agn reality, bago sila mapunta sa professional league pinaalam na sa kanila yan dahil isa ako sa mga nagtuturo nun. Me responsibilities ang mga player dahil public figure sila, wag silang iyakin. Actually sa aking observation kay Mr. Arboleda, barumbado talaga siya maglaro lagi nya pinapakita ang laki ng katawa nya, kapag payatot ang point guard napansin nyu ba kung paano nya dunggulin??? Barumbado talaga sya, me attitude na siga. Sa totoo lang hindi naman magaling na player tong si Mr. Arboleda alam nyu yan diba? Isa pa, natural lang na mag react ang fans sa ginawa nyang kabarumbaduhan dun sa player ng Smart Gilas, sinahod nya intentionally, dapat dun palang sinibak na sya. Public apology is not enough, he should pay for what he did, ngayon dapat ready siya maging accountable sa mga kabarumbaduhan nya. Hindi niya kilala yung kinalaban nya mas big time sa kanya yun gago ba sya.
Mr. Arboleda, mag isip isip ka na, ikaw na lang mag drive ng mga taxi mo. Mayambang ka e, gamitin mo yang ka angasan mo kapag na holdap ka sa pagmamaneho mo ng taxi mu. :-) Oki? Kung mapipikon ka sa mga sinabi ko, kita tayo makikipag suntukan ako sa iyo, 6′4 ang height ko at mas hamak mas malaki katawan ko sa iyo, tlagang lulumpuhin kita. :-)

Kaya wala na nanonood sa PBA dahil sa mga player na tulad ni Arboleda. He is a professional basketball player and he should act like one… Kahit na ano pa sabihin ng fans dapat tanggapin, laro yan eh at kung wala mga fans na yan sino pa manonood sa kanila. Mayaman kasi asawa nyan kaya kahit i-ban for life sa PBA ayus lang.

to the fans naman baka nakalimutan nyo na may nakasulat sa ticket nyo na no profane language… so anong sinasabi nya na ok lang mag mura at mag insulto ng player….

Yung ticket sa PBA may nakasulat yan sa likod na bawal magbigay ng profane language. Pwede mong asarin, pero huwag mo naman murahin. I know walang excuse si Wynne para hindi ma-penalize, but the Commissioner’s Office should also look into the matter on what triggered the player from doing such action

Mr . Arboleda should not act that way. I agree that he should be banned for life from playing in any league, beacuse of his conduct unbecoming a sportsman. Baka nakalimutan niya na kung di sa mga fans o spectators wala sila. And he should know na kaya nga fans may kinikilingan o kinakampihan. What a small mind for a big guy. What a pity.

Hindi naman tama na lifetime ban ang ibigay kay Arboleda, ok na siguro 1 year.
Ang mga player sanay yan sa kantyaw, pero yung maxado ng personal attacks e hindi na natin masabi. Bakit ano ba yang mga player, puppet para pwede mong mura murahin? dapat as a fan, respect lang din sa mga player… respeto lang naman e, hindi yung nirerespeto mo lang yung idol mo tapos kung murahin mo naman ang ibang player e daig mo pa may kaaway…
hindi lang player ang dapat mag act ng tama, syempre pati yung nanood dapat ganun din…

Its not fair for Arboleda to be suspended for the whole season, few games will be enough. Why is it just the players that got suspended or being thrown out of the court? “that” fan should also be ban in watching PBA. He doesnt have any right to curse any player just because he paid for that “special seat”. Are you God? If your watching a game, just watch! Then you will be filing a case against arboleda? Are you insane? You have the nerve to do that? This happened because you!

Isipin nyo nalang bat laging nbangko sina Marvin Cruz at Cyrus Baguio dati nung nasa Air21 pa sila at si wynne laging babad. haha

I lament this incident. It should never happen in the first place and should not happen again. Our athletes are public figures. Whether they like it or not. They must always restrain themselves from committing such uncalled for acts. Young children, some even preschoolers watch PBA with their Moms and Dads on TV, then this Arboleda comes around with his temper. His act is really embarrassing. His suspension is justified. He must not be given again the chance to play in the PBA. His kind and that of his team player Yee should be ban for life in the PBA. They must not even be allowed at least 50 meters away from where a PBA game is held. They do not have any place in the premiere league. To Mr. Alain Katigbak, you must pursue the case and let this unprofessional athlete suffer the consequences of his act. he should not be given the right he did not give his fellow men.

PBA management should also look into how to control the fans not to throw invectives to a player, that way these unfortunate incidents would not happen again. Fans should be restrained also.

Tommy Manotoc was right. The BK players were mauling the SmartGuilas players! Their acts were uncalled for! If Alain Katigbak said nasty things to Wynne, he should retaliate the same way…words lang..curse! Pero to maul the fan…it’s unforgivable Wynne should not be allowed to play at the PBA. One more thing…the SmartGuilas players were allowed to play at the PBA to gain some knowledge from the so called senior PBA players…ano matututunan nila? Mangbugbog? Do not allow this thug – Wynne Arboleda to play at PBA! BK should discipline this guy!

Kawawa naman ang mga SmartGuilas players…ginagawang punching bag ng mga PBA players…Alalahanin natin na sila ang maglalaro sa Olympics. Sa ginagawa ng PBA players sa kanila e baka di na sila umabot ng 2010. Mga bata pa ang mga iyan kakalabas lang ng UAAP sana naman e may gawing hakbang ang PBA Commissioner sa ginagawa ng mga PBA players. Ban for life Mr. Arboleda! para di tularan

Ganyan talaga ang buhay, kung may ginawa kang mali eh pagbabayaran mo.
Swerte sya hindi lifetime ban ang binigay sa kanya.
Malas nya siguradong talo sya sa courte doon sa fan.

From what I read from all the comment in this site and what I saw from the news and to the play I could say that the ban for Arboleda for the whole season was harsh enough, the board should at least warned him moreover an additional penalty of fines with that warning that repetition of such act would mean, he will be banned for life.
The opinion of others favoring that of Katigbak’s action would only mean that it is but natural and accepted by the people that players should be cursed not only them but their family as well, and even hurt them in any means available at the court but players should not retaliate because they are professionals?????? and the fans were immune of any assault??????????

Wynne Arboleda’s action is not acceptable, everyone knows that and almost all is cursing him for his actions. But what about Alain Katigbak’s behavior? Is everyone also here condemning his action and behavior?
Sabi nang lawyer niya, hindi dapat maglaro ang ganong klaseng player. So I think also na dapat ding hindi papasokin ang ganong fans. Kung tutuusin siya ang nagumpisa, kung di lang sana niya ginawa yun, di na sana siya nasapak. At sabi pa nila, victim daw siya. Cguro nga, dahil siya ang nagulpi. hahaha. (Buti nga sa kanya) Pero sa totoo lang, si wynne arboleda ang victim dito. Kasi malaki-laki ang nawala sa kanya. Pinaghirapan niya maging basketball player at ganon lang kadali siraan nang isang fan. Cguro bago magsalita ang lawyer ni Katigbak, dapat pagisipan niya mabuti dahil sa totoo lng, ang kanyang cliente ang walang galang .

I agree with the ruling, and I hope it becomes life long ban. As everyone knows this is a dirty player and I dont even watch the PBA. But you can tell from all the cheap shos he throws out. He got what he deserved a long time ago, it just took him to hit a fan, which wether or not he was cursing or not, to get the proper sentence for this player.
Touching a fan good or bad, is wrong and should definetly be frowned upon. And dealt with severly, If I and thousands or millions of others called BK and said we wouldn’t eat there because of this player, you can bet it wouldn’t be the BK team to much longer.
So be a man, if you play sports, then play them, if you got a temper to bad, if you don’t like to be called names then get a job in BK instead of playing on a team.

This for dennis- pare, kaya hindi lumaban si mr katigbak is because the guy has breeding. unlike arboleda, na feeling astig na bec of his connection to the franchise owner of bk. and one more thing, its not like he was provoke by mr katigbak. it was because of his stupid antics kaya nangyari ang lahat. if he palyed a clean game wala syang maririnig. tama lang sanction sa kanya ng comm. The bad habit should be stopped.

Banned for Life, that should be the punishment for arboleda, 1 season aint enough.. Ron Artest was banned for a season, because he came after a fan who threw somthing at him, he wasnt even the one who initiated the contact, but still he got 1 season ban.
Some pipol say that “we cant blame arboleda for what he have done” oh,, come on… I say “we cat blame katigbak for what he have said” because im xure that most people who have watched the video, would have cursed arboleda themselves for what was he doing to other players.
As a professional basketball player, he should have kept his composure even if fans are saying something bad at him because in basketball specially in PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL you should expect that your opponent have their own fans that cheer them up, and curse you down.
There are two main reasons why fans say bad things to the players, one is that they are so good at playing that they are making the fan’s team lose OR they are simply PLAYING DIRTY… and from what ive seen, arboleda was not a good player..
If only he played clean, this would have never happened, and if he plays again, this is more likely to be repeated because even more people would hate and curse arboleda for what he did to a fan and even if he doesnt hit an audience again, he would probably endanger the lives of other player.
Do you think that the people who watched the incident would prevent themselves from cursing players, for playing good basketball or playing dirty, i dont think so.. Coz, thats how being audiences/fans is..

as far as the incident is concerned, both parties have their share of mistakes…as for wynne, being a professional basketball player, he is still expected to be professional..it reflects towards his character…as we all know, all of our players came from different backgrounds. some came from a well of family, some came from a middle class family and some maybe came from nothing who just worked his ass out and to have a better future as a basketball player..this is a fact that we all have to consider…
as for alain katigbak, being a prfessional of his own, who seems to be comiing from a well known family or a well off family, he should not be doing such thing…it’s such a shame for a guy like him to be cursing at a player..what the heck!!!… we watch a game and we fans also tend to be emotional, but that does not give a fan to curse or use such words…
bottomline is, we are not supposed to be hurting each other… lets us all be sport… kaya nga tinawag na sports yan eh…
