Two Filipino fighters won world championship belts less than 24 hours apart.

First up was Florante Condes who won via split decision over Muhammad Rachman of Indonesia snatching the International Boxing Federation mini-flyweight (105-lb) crown. Condes, known as “The Little Pacquiao,” knocked Rachman down twice in the third and 10th rounds during the 12-round title fight. Next was Filipino-American Nonito Donaire who knocked out the previously undefeated IBF and International Boxing Organization flyweight champion, Vic Darchinyan, in the fifth round of their scheduled 12-rounder. Donaire (18-1, 11 Kos) won his 17th straight fight by flooring the champion with a left hook that landed flush to the mouth, causing Darchinyan to collapse to the canvas.
