Rico Blanco leaves Rivermaya
Vocalist, guitarist, composer Rico Blanco has left Rivermaya.
Their last gig happened last May 4 at the Metro Bar. Incidentally, the original Rivermaya band’s first gig was also held there where they were the opening act for Eraserheads (Metro Bar was known as Kampo in the 90’s). So what happens now to the rest of the band? There are talks that there are plans for a reality tv show in search for the next Rivermaya vocalist. But local music experts say that without Rico who writes most of the bands hits, it might be the end of the road for the “Banda ng Bayan”.

of course he can create good songs even if he does alone. he wrote all the rivermaya hits! he also played a lot of instruments! i think he can get better bandmates than the ones he have no.
w but i dont think he wants to play music na. maybe he has no more challenge in music because he already won all awards and accomplish everything even in international charts. i hope he plays music again even magdisband na ang rivermaya. bitin pa ako eh.

I’m more interested in how Rivermaya would sound like after Rico leaves, frankly. It probably won’t be the Rivermaya we grew accustomed to, but this is an opportunity to explore their sound or head off to a new direction. I’m optimistic the (remaining) band members would take the challenge well, with or without Rico.

bamboo was the voice of rivermaya.. rico was the lyrics, the message or should i say the soul behind bamboo’s singing. surprisingly the band survived with out bamboo this is solely because the soul remained. But with out it.. theyd be zombies. A lot of respect to the folks behind the bands instruments but with Rico gone it’s just not rivermaya anymore. Try listening to led zep with out Robert Plant… simply wont work. they should change their name if they want to move on, because there is only one rivermaya and it happens to be rico blanco…

Rico is one of biggest contributor in our music industry.. for every music, song he did, all of this touches our life through generation.. as like eraserheads, rivermaya made its unique strategies to be know by all the filipinos, and all the people around the globe.. lets respect what rico’s decision.. even though wala na sya, or makilala sya in other aspect, maipagmamalaki pa rin ntin sya dahil siya ay may dugong pilipino! isang ugat isang dugo.. mabuhay ka tol.. aztig! goodluck in your career bro.. godbless..

He wrote so many songs about them, but rico had a potential and
they had a identity to make there own band but for me its sad, na

i agree with cebu-boy. rivermaya has a long way ahead, but im sure they’ll get there. as of now, they have an enormous addition in jayson fernandez. but please let’s not compare the kid to rico blanco. with no questions, we can all say that rico blanco is one of the living legends now in music industry, aminin nyo man or hindi.
however, i think the title should be changed to “rivermaya leaves rico blanco”. just a thought.

Rico is one factor why Rivermaya reached this level of popularity. just let him go and let him move forward what ever he wants. Bamboo is also a great vocalist that’s why rivermaya is so popular.
Good luck to the latest line up of Rivermaya but sorry to say you will never reach the same level as the old guys did.

i miss rico blanco sooo much!i fell inluv with him when i heared his interview in singapore.such a very witty guy.one dj said that he is so cool and friendly.i hope he will resume his carrer.i know that he is doing charity which made me admire him more.to me he is my ultimate PAPA.GENUIS GUY and cutie,nobody compares to him.gosh i could’nt get enough of him.

everyone has an opinion on this . . . mine is either one of 3 possibilites:
1). he’s no longer happy -> kahit gaano katagal ka na kasal, pag di ka na masaya, the relationship is likely gonna go down and ending it is almost inevitable -> sayang nga sya, pero there’s nothing anybody can do, it’s just the way it is.
2). he wants to make a dramatic exit -> quit while he’s ahead . . . much like what Jordan did the first time he retired or when Kurt Cobain blew his brains out . . . or when Jerry decided to end Seinfeld . . . the more dramatic your exit, the more you will be remembered — or so that’s what these people thought.
3). he thinks he’s better than what he is now. he may have ideas or dreams of grandeur or greatness and he just isn’t going to be able to pull it off in his current situation.

I agree!! # 1 could have been the main reason why he left rivermaya. But surely rivermaya will missed this guy’s talent both in vox and song writing. For the new line up good luck nalang sa inyo but for sure you will never equal the success brought by Rico.

i went to rivermaya’s gig @ tiendesitas & whoahhh their new vocalist exceeds beyond my expectation, grabe ang galing ni jayson & may face value ah,as in dinumog cla ng mga excited nlang fans, feel ko mas sisikat cla ngyn dhl sa bagong vocalist & ndi pa mayabang, reding ready papic kht pagod na & pawisan, ndi maarte unlike rico nung nagconcert cla nuon sa AdU, sumpungin & ang yabang! ndi man lng namamansin ng fans, feeling tom cruise, sobrang suplado ang swangit naman, anyway pabayaan na nga nten c rico, asan ba cia ngyn? weheheh

napanuod nyo ba ung asian idol sa singapore ata un ginanap which nakaduet nila si maw, i’m surprised bago na yung vocalist ng rivermaya, hindi ako naimpress kasi iba talaga pag si rico ang kumanta, mas pulido baga, kaya parang nawala yung charm ng kanta nung si jayson ba name ng new vocalist nila?yun pero napanuod ko din sila nagperform sa sop nun, mejo ok yung new single nila, sound funky.goodluck na lang.

mahirap n mabuo ulit ang dating samahan ng maya their all like big brother,,madami na silang pinagdaanan//naghiwa-hiwalay na,,sabi nga nila at first sinipa nila si perf de castro lead guitarman because of music differences,,and now bamboo pumunta ng US para kuno magaaral pero behind that bumalik para magtayo ng sarili nyang mundo,banda,,sumama din si nathan so bamboo na sila..popular na maraming pera..Ngayon c-rico naman nagresign,bakit ka nyo madami kayung sasabihin diyan di ba?..,,Identity Crisis,..pero malupet talaga sa masa kahit ako naging fans nila di matawaran ang galing nila,,because of their brilliant creativity and talent,,,talagang banda sila ng bayan,.mahal sila ng masa,,,pero di nila nakayanan ang maging isang malupet na international arist,,,yun sana ang pangarap nila..na mapabilang sa mga international artist..na kinikilala sa mundo….tingin ko lng msaya n rin sila sa mga success nila,,yun lng may bad trip sila sa kada isa sa kanilang myembro…gudluck!sa inyo dito lng kami ,,nagaabang at nagaantay…..( :D)

this is almost like what barbie almalbis did, left barbie’s cradle to go solo.. so did kitchie nadal when she left mojofly but this one is different.. there’s bitterness.. the rest of the guys from rivermaya felt like iniwan sila sa ere ni rico while the band is in the peak of their career.. rico never said anything to the fans who’s been there all these time to support them.. its a good thing rivermaya decided to continue, mark, japs, mike and the new vocalist jason because they know that they can’t just leave the fans.. my question now is this, did rico blanco returned to offer better music to his fans that he can’t offer while he’s with rivermaya or gusto nya lang ba’ng masolo ang fame? we’ll see…

guys..share lang ako ha…remember wen bamboo left rivermaya, it was a big lost for them coz people tot na di nila kaya mag survie w/out bamboo…wel they show to the d world na kaya nila kahit noong 3 nlang cla sa banda, namely rico, nathan and mark…wen nathan left the band naghanap na cla ng mga papalit then they found japs and mike na parehong may talent….look guys, kahit anong mangyari sa maya matatag pa rin cla, hinding-hindi mawawala ng banda ng bayan bastat nandito taung mga taong naniniwala sa kanila…wel for mr. blanco, idol na idol ko talaga xa…kala ko nga di na xa babalik sa music scene, ginulat nya ko sa song na yugto…”lumiyab talaga ako dun”…ang angas ng dating….alam ko namang were both suporting filipino bands eh….so, wag na kayong magsiraan…just support the both of them, even bamboo also….kapatid pa rin naman cla ng maya eh, cla nathan at bamboo…ika nga ng kanta nila…”peace man”….

wow, im glad to read your reactions about RICO BLANCO, about the band RIVERMAYA. It seems like you were being paid only to talk about this, brilliant minds, i like it, im happy to read them.
I think chiffon is only sharing her words to us, she’s right, hindi sya tubig na kailangan pakuluan para sa kape. ;)), marahil may rason si chiffon kung bakit nya nasabi iyon.
I felt sad to when I heard about this, when I see the magazine which talks about Rico blanco’s exit to his band but since the only fix thing in this world is change then maybe he deserves it. To you goodylocks, i agree with your idea, ow i mean your tots, it was well explained in the song Yugto of what Rico felt into his former band.
To the remaining members of the “banda ng bayan”, i want to say this, that one day when you learned that this band is not were you realy belong, for sure you will also find the way into the exit to find yourself into the other part of the world just like what Rico did. Keep up the good work and good song “banda ng bayan”. I still continue to love your songs in the future. To Jayson Fernandez, keep up that very special talent you have. GBU everyone.
