Snake bites girl at Ark Avilon Zoo

The 17-year-old daughter of Manila Bulletin columnist Jerry Liao was bitten by an albino Ruthven Kingsnake while she was stroking the reptile at the Ark Avilon Zoo at the Frontera Verde-Tiendesitas complex in Barangay Ugong, Pasig City.

Though the bite from the snake was not venomous, the Liaos decided to bring the victim to a hospital nearby where she was given an anti-tetanus shot and antibiotic medicine to counter the possible infection from the snakebite. Ark Avilon Zoo is a two-storey Noah’s Ark-inspired structure siting on a 2,000-square-meter lot, which is home to over a dozen of animal species. Entrance to the zoo is about 200-250 pesos per head and is operated by the same company that operates the Avilon Zoo in Rodriguez town in Rizal province.

what happen to the girl that was bitten by the snake? what does Avilon Zoo Management do about it? If ever me and my family will visit what is our security that the biting won’t happen again.

i was disappointed! all along i thought the kids can ride the pony or donkey around the zoo but what happened was they can only ride for picture taking opportunities and was not even given a chance to ride for at least 5 minutes. we were also devastated that the butterflies were gone ( i don’t know why because nobody told us why even i asked some staff, they just said that the butterflies are gone, period!) another thing is the waterfalls area where the crocs are, i just saw two crocs i was expecting more and also clean water because the entrance fee was way too high considering that the zoo was only small compare to other zoo so the maintenance should be in the higher level also. I pity all the animals because they are not given proper care especially for those who need extra care. Like the bear, they should have real trees to climb in their place just like what we saw in ocean park in hongkong. i also noticed the inadequate water for all the animals. they must be really thirsty especially that it is sooo hot here in the phils. I wish to see more animals that is worth the entrance fee we paid. we were disappointed with the quantity of the animals and we were also frustrated to learn how they treat the animals there. for me the animals in avilon zoo are improperly taken care of. as an animal rights advocator, the authorities should make necessary action with this regards.
