Sochi, Russia to host 2014 Winter Olympics

The Black Sea resort of Sochi was awarded the 2014 Winter Olympic Games after beating off challenges from Pyeongchang of South Korea and Salzburg of Austria in an International Olympic Committee vote on Wednesday headed by IOC president Jacques Rogge.
The vote totals were not immediately released. Sochi became the first Russian venue to host the Winter Olympics after it battled hard to overcome the impression of being a virtual reality bid with no venues.
