Supreme Court upholds tax evasion case against Judy Ann Santos

The Supreme Court of the Philippines denied the petition of actress Judy Ann Santos to dismiss the tax evasion filed against her by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

The BIR filed a case against Santos for not declaring her income from her movie and product endorsements for the year 2002. According to the BIR, she only stated about 8.033 million pesos in earnings in 2002, despite earning almost 16.3 million pesos in talents fees from her projects in ABS-CBN, Viva Productions, Star Cinema and commercial endorsements. The tax evasion suit holds a jail term of two to four years with a fine ranging from 30,000 to 100,000 pesos.
