Tumayo Tayo Laban sa Kahirapan (STAND UP Against Poverty)
The UN system in the Philippines is launching the Tumayo Tayo (Stand Up) campaign, which ties up with the STAND UP project of the UN Millennium Campaign. STAND UP is an innovative and exciting global challenge to set an official Guinness World Record – the greatest number of people ever to Stand Up Against Poverty – on 15 and 16 October 2006. Through the symbolic action of standing up, the campaign aims to publicly demonstrate to policy makers the growing support for the achievement of the MDGs and for the strengthening of development policies both in the Philippines and throughout the world. In the Philippines, the goal is to have at least 1 million Filipinos stand up against poverty and for the MDGs. (Counting will take place from 15-16 October 2006.)
