UAAP Season 71: Ateneo defeats La Salle

Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles beat defending champion De La Salle University, 79-73, during their thrilling first match up in UAAP Season 71 men’s basketball competition Sunday.
Chris Tiu led the Blue Eagles with 26 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Eric Salamat and Rabah Al-Hussaini made 10 points each while freshman Ryan Buenafe and Jobe Nkemakolam added eight and seven points, respectively. For La Salle, it was Casio who led the team with 19 points on 7-for-13 shooting while Maierhofer chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds. Mangahas added 13 while rookie Joshua Webb came off the bench to score seven in 11 minutes of action.
