Umobile Philippines is now Red Mobile
Several users of umobile Philippines received a call from umobile (02 981-15-00) informing them that umobile will eventually be Red Mobile.

The umobile representative said that they will be transitioning from umobile to Red Mobile (using Smart’s facilities) from November 16-20, and umobile’s services will be affected or will be not be available during that time.
They will also be delivering a new SIM card via courier replacing the umobile SIM and that the initial free load of the said SIM is 200 pesos (compared to umobile’s 100). The free 100 peso load will also continue with Red Mobile said the representative. All this free of charge.

November 16th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
I wonder if this is the same “ad-funded” propaganda?
will the sim be available in malls?
or still the same “only internet” subscription for new users?
November 16th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
i received a call from umobile today saying that the the “premium” sim will be delivered starting nov 16. it’s sad nga lang kasi the current umobile number will be replaced by the new sim. sayang lang, ang ganda na ng umobile number ko eh… ^_^

natawagan din ako kanina, sounds like much better tong red mobile coz pwede ka na magtext and call to other networks, available na din ang sim to retail outlets pwede ka na din magpaload and pasaload. Mas convenient na ngayon. Sabi for red to red, 0.50 lang…im so excited to receive my sim!
November 16th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
red mobile is powered by SMART.
addict mobile repackaged directed to eliminate SUN CELLULAR
prepare for the eclipse…
November 17th, 2008 at 12:20 am
much better talaga itong red mobile kasi 0.50 lang ang sms at mms. at yung web browsing niya is 7.50 per 15 mins. if im not mistaken, 39pesos po yung retail sim niya. sa network naman is sa smart kaso, hindi sa gsm yung band niya kundi sa 3G. so hindi pwede yung red mobile sim sa mga cellphone na walang 3G. sa akin lang yung red mobile is pang laban nila sa sun cellular kasi yung sun, 2% nalang yung deperensya nila sa touch mobile. :)
November 17th, 2008 at 8:30 am
November 17th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
@Bam, san nabibili ang sim?
November 17th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
sa ngayon wala pa available sa market. but according to a smart distributor in kidapawan city na nag attend sa red mobile convention, it will be out soon and will be sold in stores just like the other sim cards. ill keep it posted. :)
November 18th, 2008 at 12:11 am

November 18th, 2008 at 8:34 am
November 18th, 2008 at 10:20 am
ang sabi sakin ung 200 call & text card is one time only. its just a freebie. hindi cya initial free load sa simcard. could u believe it ang voice & video call is only .50/min red-red! akalain mo? same with sms & mms - only .50 red-red! and full connection daw to the 3G network! san ka pa dba? =) go, go, RED na tayo!!!
November 18th, 2008 at 10:44 pm

November 19th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
Ano yan communist mobile? o kaya galing cguro russia….
November 19th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
November 19th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
November 19th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
unfortunately the number will change. di macarry over un umobile number. it will have to change. besides, di na rin 0999 ang prefix. i think it’s 0938
November 19th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
ohh dats cool… mlamang everyone wil use the red mobile..
November 19th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
Yes its really cool but not everyone can use since not everyone of us has 3G/HSDPA-enabled cellphones. :)
November 20th, 2008 at 11:21 am
wow…
sounds great!!
ako din. panu mag register o panu magkaroon nian…?? pls.. email me..
November 20th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
is it true that the red mobile sim won’t work with non-3g enabled fones?
November 20th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
nope, red mobile aka umobile works even in non-3g phones I have my 3650 and a umobile sim card. Its the best sim than sun cellular. tested and proven.
November 20th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
cool!!! i must have one..how can i get one???sana exclusive lan xa hekek..
November 20th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Red Mobile will ONLY work on 3G/HSDPA Phones kasi yung signal or network niya dun kukunin.
November 20th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
I’M REALLY CRAVING FOR ONE..huhu..

November 22nd, 2008 at 4:12 am
November 22nd, 2008 at 11:43 am
I’m not sure for this new SIM CARD that named RED MOBILE but I think it is nice too, because I buy one. I’m confused for one reason that they don’t even tell what type of Company it is? For example of SMART and GLOBE. Well, some customer will be curious to ask about this kind of SIM CARD….
I would loved to know all the information about this because I think it can be help for my personal need and also for the others to text their relative in other countries.
God Bless and Good Day….
November 22nd, 2008 at 11:54 am
red mobile (as how the personal mobile assistants referred to), is a premium sim (much better version of umobile). as of this moment, no further announcements have been made if the ad-funded propaganda will continue. (in fact, i NEVER received any ads with my umobile sim).
red mobile is powered by smart. and from what i’ve seen from other blogsites, the signal depends on 3g so it will be unusable for non-3g mobile phones (unconfirmed yet).
anyway, medyo thumbs down ako sa kanila sa promised dates ng delivery nung sim. nung tinawagan ako 4 days ako, sabi sa akin, anytime from that day till the 20th matatanggap yung sim. however, it’s the 22nd and i still haven’t got mine.
November 22nd, 2008 at 11:59 am
Ok!
If this is powered by SMART, why I can’t load for E-LOAD for SMART for this SIM CARD?
November 22nd, 2008 at 12:18 pm
What year when uMobile ‘aka’ RED MOBILE intuduced here in the Philippines?
November 22nd, 2008 at 12:32 pm
red mobile will launch before the year ends (according to a personal mobile assistant).

November 23rd, 2008 at 10:36 pm
does red mobile uses gprs? and whats the settings?
November 23rd, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Yes, red mobile uses gprs. in fact, browsing costs P 7.50/15 minutes. =D
Tsaka pwede ba, dun sa nagsasabing SCAM and red mobile, i think you need some TV time. May commercial ang Red Mobile and they are now introducing the product to consumers. Unnecessary comments just make you look dumb.
November 23rd, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Eunice, walang unli ang Red Mobile but instead, they offer you lower call rates (red to red) for as low as P 0.50! meaning, you can still make a call to another red mobile number with only P 0.50 left on your balance.
It’s pre-loaded with P 10.00 (equivalent to 20-minute call or 20 text messages to another red mobile user).
Calls to other networks costs P 6.50.
November 23rd, 2008 at 10:51 pm
To enjoy 3G services (ie: mobile internet) and MMS services, please activate your 3G / MMS settings by texting RED(space) to 9969.
November 24th, 2008 at 2:27 am
nice info.. i think i’ll buy one later.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:57 am
visit: http://www.redmobile.com for more info..
November 24th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
November 24th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
I think, Red Mobile’s goal is to eliminate Sun Cellular - unlimited nga ang calls pero a lot of times (if not all the time) choppy yung signal, palaging network busy…
November 25th, 2008 at 9:24 am
November 25th, 2008 at 9:57 am
san ako pwede tumawag para magtanong about red mobile.
November 25th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
wala pa rin ang red mobile ko..huhuhuh..i thought they will deliver it,.haaayy..sayang nman ang load…
November 25th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
mukang maraming pahihirapan yang edmobile na yan
November 26th, 2008 at 11:00 am
i have 3 friends who bought the red mobile prepaid sim (quiapo) and feebacks were all positive. clear signal, di choppy ang line, mabilis makatawag. ok ang video call.
has anyone here who received a call from red mobile already received their sim card? ako kasi hindi pa. pero nasa courier na daw. araw araw ko na tinatawagan red mobile. hehe.
@chinx, don’t worry about the load kasi ang alam ko di naman mawawala un. macarry over daw un balance mo tsaka free 100 load (if you’re still eligible for it) sa red mobile sim.
for questions regarding red mobile, you can contact their customer service hotline. (02)924-9999.

November 27th, 2008 at 10:58 am
for rich people lang pala ang redmobile. mas marami gumagamit ng hindi 3G.
reminder lang:
kung bibili kayo ng brand new celfone lalo na 3G iwasan nyo bumili sa mega cellular network located sa shangrila mall edsa shaw blvd lower ground. marami na nagrereklamo dun sirain ung mga brand new unit nila.
November 27th, 2008 at 6:39 pm

November 28th, 2008 at 11:45 am
i dont like this crap. there is no 3g signal here in my province. WTF. umobile is better even with its interconnection problem.
November 28th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
okay… someone’s using the same name as i am. anyway, i’m not from any province. and red mobile’s coverage is nationwide.
here’s what it says about their network..
Our Network
Powered by a countrywide 3G network, red mobile is available nationwide. 3G allows us to give you clearer calls, better signals, and even better value for money services.
November 28th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
November 28th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
November 29th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
@rem, automatic na mag upgrade yang retailer sim mo..
December 2nd, 2008 at 8:59 pm
is it true that the minimum re loadable load of red sim is P100.00??
December 2nd, 2008 at 10:53 pm
I got my sim today delivered at my home through post office.
Test it on my Nokia 1208 walang siganal. so ginamit ko ang N70 ko.
And I tried to register my N70 to GPRS pero walang reply ang system nila. Maybe hindi supported ng GPRS nila ang N70?
Oh well, I still prefer the umobile promise before.
December 3rd, 2008 at 9:48 am
meron akong umobile, i just want to know if kailan pedeng palitan un, kc nung sa umobile e nagregister lang ako thru internet, e ngaun sa red mobile e kailangan pa yatang itawag..di ba may mga kopya naman cguro cla ng umobile subscribers, cguro naman pwde nang padalhan na lang nila ng replacements ang mga yun di ba para naman di hassle sa part ng mga subscribers…
December 5th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
I got my red mobile sim… ok naman yung network.. kaso di pa nag working yung Customer service hotline nila… it only works with a 3G phone on a 3G signal are (city lang muna ngaun)
December 8th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
RED MOBILE is powered by SMART of course, still smart pa rin that can eat a load to the subsciber.

CALAMBA HERE
December 20th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
i’ve been using red mobile for almost a week now. i don’t see or read anyone giving their review about the said network, so allow me to do it.
me (alabang) and my gf (malinta) have been using this network and are quite satisfied with it. but like all other networks, it does have its pros and cons.
PROS
- once activated (3G setting), it really is P0.50 per text/call/video call
- i almost never text my gf anymore, cause i can say far more by calling/video calling her for just P0.50 a minute
- i noticed that its signal strength/weakness are of the same places where smart is also strong/weak
CONS
- it’s signal strength is about 90% reliable. meaning, about 10% of the time, i can’t contact my gf
- its load centers are not as ubiquitous as the other networks
So overall, weighing in the pros and cons, i’m quite satisfied with red mobile. buti na lang 3G enabled ang phone ko at ng gf ko. sorry na lang sa mga low tech phones dyan!
December 22nd, 2008 at 5:15 am
Nice review bro. but i dont like how you describe non-3G phone as “low tech phones”.
Just a thought
December 24th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
i also noticed that activating the services offered by red (RED phone model (sent to 9969) ) activated my 3g settings and mms functions, but not my internet. it’s ok for me though, cause i use smart internet (using my SE W880i as a phone modem for my laptop, not smart bro plug in). besides, smart is cheaper when it comes to internet usage (P10.00 per 30 mins, instead of red’s P7.50 per 15 minutes).
10 days have passed, with relatively heavy calling and video calling to my gf (about 10 minutes in the morning, 10 in the afternoon and 15 in the evening), i’m still yet to consume the P100 load i started using 10 days ago (still have P55.00 in my account). so in total, i have used P45.00 (including the P10 free load) since i tried red.
