University of the Philippines (UP) celebrates centennial
The yearlong celebration of the centennial year of the University of the Philippines started at its flagship campus in Diliman in Quezon City on Tuesday.
Contingents from different UP campuses converged at UP Manila for a motorcade to the flagship campus in Quezon City. Dragon dancers and an ati-atihan greeted the motorcade on University Avenue and ushered them toward the oblation. From a plane borrowed from the Philippine Air Force, sky divers representing the seven UP units dropped to a vacant lot in front of Plaridel Hall, a short distance away from the Oblation. A fireworks will signaled the start of the centennial flame relay around the oval. After the program, UP-bred artists including Ryan Cayabyab and the UP Madrigal Singers, among others, will stage a free concert at the amphitheater behind Quezon Hall.

the cradle campus UP Manila is quite snubbed sa mga centennial projects.. si ROMANTIKA talaga.. at diba 100 years celebration.. eh diba UP Manila ang 100 years na ang existence.. pero di dun ginanap ang kick-off?? just asking??

@look: UP Manila wasn’t snubbed. Yes, the Manila campus is 100 years old, but what we’re celebrating is the entire UP system, not just Manila or Diliman. In fact, the parade started in Manila and the contingents from other campuses (Baguio, Visayas, Mindanao, etc) converged in Diliman–which is the flagship campus after all. Kung sa UP Manila ginawa yun, there simply isn’t enough space.
