19-year-old John Gabriel Pelias will be graduating summa cum laude (B.S. Mathematics) with a general weighted average (GWA) of 1.016 from the University of the Philippines (UP) in Diliman, Quezon City.
His GWA is the highest in UP history after World War II. The lowest grade he got was 1.25, which he received in 3 subjects (English 1, Filipino 40, and a math subject). Pelias’ immediate plans after graduation is to teach at the UP Institute of Mathematics this coming semester while pursuing a master’s degree.
