UP Pep Squad bags 2008 UAAP Cheerdance title
The University of the Philippines Pep Squad was declared champions in the 2008 Samsung-UAAP Cheerdance Competition before a crowd of more than 20,000 at the Araneta Coliseum Sunday.
The UP Pep Squad got 195,000 pesos plus a trophy, UST Salinggawi dance troupe came in first runner-up with 120,000 pesos and a trophy, the second runner-up award went to the Far Eastern University Cheering Squad. The Tamaraws won 80,000 pesos and a trophy. All eight UAAP-member universities joined the event.

mas malaki ang improvement ng adamson kesa sa ust pero its not enough na sabihin na mas magaling sila sa gawi.
congrats UP! go Salinggawi… if ever maisipan nyo na magsayaw ulit para manalo… go lang. sana next year magkaroon naman kayo ng mas selfish na pagiisip. ok na na nagsasayaw kayo para sa thomasian community eklabu dahilan nyo… pero isipin nyo din na sana… sana lang talaga… manalo kayo para sa sarili nyo.
UST community is proud of Salinggawi. now… it’s time to win. if God favors UP this time… Make Him favor us next time… Gumawa kayo ng HIMALAAA!!! joke hehe..

UP- deserves to get many many many DEDUCTIONS… dami kayang palpak kanina..pero bakit hindi yata nadeduct??? explaination pls…………….
UST- may nabago na sa routine nila… kaso andun pa din ung ballet steps whatever nila… uniform was not that good.
FEU.. magaling…. but BOWRENG

ADMU… maganda ung routines. pero ng pinagsamasama, pangit…
AL SALLE ( LA SALLE PALA) = they were not deserving in 7th place… pangit routines… but much much much better than alst yir.. (last yir pla).
National.. MOST IMPROVED TEAM…..kung icocompare sa past performance nila… ito ang best nila.. but kulang pa para sa top half… 5th place i guess…

first of all “mas better”? wow, for emphasis ba yan o sadyang barok ka lang talaga? anyway, bakit naman dapat mahiya ang UP (champion) sa UST (1st runner up), DLSU (non-placer) at ADAMSON (non-placer) kanina? may criteria ang competition at doon nakabase kung sino ang dapat manalo. laro ba yan na pambata na kailangan MAGKAMPIHAN? at sorry pero ang bigat namang judgement ng “hindi deserving”. for your information, may point system ang competition. 93.30 ang UP, 85.27 lang ang UST. now tell me, yan ba ang hindi deserving? watch your words.

2008 UAAP Cheer dance was really amazing , i can still feel the heat of competition . Every each team has something to prove , Adamson , Ateneo and National University , were really improving , but they still didn’t manage to take the place well its because UP , UST and FEU are with there highest level na. I am agree Adamson was really good sana nag-karoon sila ng place , better luck next time . Up is certainly to be the winner , for almost every year,UP brought a different kind of flavor to the competition , and gosh the girls wow they really rock , i love the outfit , no one beat the Style of UP . GOOOOOOO UP.

napanood ko na, yes malinis nga ung routine ng uste pero lagi namang ganun, playing safe. i was in araneta kanina, with a UST alumna friend, and she agreed to my opinions. well for me, sdt’s routine (stunts, pyramids, choreography, tosses) difficulty was not that high compared to UP pep’s routine kaya maganda yung pagkakaexecute ng sdt. kung ipapa-perform mo ang routine ng uste sa ibang squads inc UP’s siguro kaya rin nila un in a clean performance. wala ring dating ang routine ng sdt, konti lang ang element of astonishment unlike UP pep’s routine which is unique, innovative and the degree of difficulty is high, full twist kung full twist! and who would have thought that Salidum-ay could be a cheerdance music?! and yes we have a theme! as i’ve had heard 1-5 points lang ang deduction pag may nahulog o nagkamali ang they gave 10 pts for difficulty. maybe the judges made the right decision in making deductions by considering the level of difficulty of stunts/tosses for instance. ay hindi mo ba na-feel na mas deserving ang UP na manalo kesa UST? come on naman! baka ikaw lang ang naka-feel nun! another ust friend of mine was shocked na nag second pa kayo dahil from what she observed from sdt’s performance she felt na hindi kayo papasok sa top 3… alam mo bitterness lang yan! iligo mo lang, ikain at itulog tanggal na yan! if you haven’t noticed, the competition has it’s own criteria and it was posted in the screen at the start of the competition, the judges came from different schools and the highest and the lowest scores were not included in computing the average score to avoid biases. well apparently the judges favored UP pep squad. Hindi lang sa kung malinis o madumi ang routine ng isang squad ang labanan, over-all performance yan! kaya nga may criteria for judging. Baka ikaw ang dapat mahiya dahil baka kulang ka sa effort sa pagcheer sa squad nyo as a matter of fact i was seated in patron at the ust spot last year at nung nahulog ung isang cheerleader nyo sa pyramid bigla na humina na ang cheer nyo, naupset ata ang mga alumni/faculty nyo at sinabi agad ng mga uste alumni na nasa likod namin “ay wala na, UP na to” at kinongratulate na agad nila kami, see?? what kind of supporters are you? wag mo sisihin ang kampi-kampihan ng ibang schools dapat kayo mga taga uste ang magkampihan to strengthen your fighting spirit. In fairness to us, peyups, kahit na magkamili ang up pep sa tosses/pyramids nila we still give our full support, cheer out loud pa rin! because despite of their errors they still gave their best for us and in return we’ll do the same. sabi nga ng up pep they will perform not just to win but to deserve to win! No doubt magaling ang UST SDT pero mas magaling pa rin ang UP PEP SQUAD. “You can’t beat the SALINGGAWI twice!” –> sorry, WE JUST DID. :D

i didn’t write that but i want to say something. eh hindi pa nga naman kasi kayo 400 yrs ngayong year dba… 397th year nyo pa lang hehe :D may tarp pa kayong merong 400 pacman(visual) 100. don’t tell me hindi nyo intensyon yun, pinaghandaan nyo talaga nasa very large-sized tarpaulin eh.. parang namemersonal na rin kayo in a way, c’mon it’s just a cheerdance competition, you should’ve used that tarp to print something for your squad. meron din kaming pantapat 100 > 397 pero sa kartolina nga lang! haha see the point? natawa lang kami dun sa tarp nyo eh coz we didn’t completely see it as 400 years of unending grace eating 100 years of excellence. pansinin mo yung buka ng bibig ng pacman nyo directed sa 100, hindi ba un ung ‘less than’ (inequality sign) so 400 < 100 haha eh di sa inyo na rin mismo nanggaling yun! good thing we got our right brains fully functional. regarding bitterness, eto ang talagang certified bitter, isko heard some guys after the competition “nanalo lang dahil centennial celebration nila” oh c’mon! :D

agree with neo with his point. Ask the SDT to do the Pep Squads’ routine and vice versa.
the competition is not judged on who makes the least mistakes alone. there are other criteria and i guess they give more points originality/creativity.

ok ok. i have no idea about the tarps coz im not there in Araneta. But it’s just a tarp dear. Its normal to bash your competitors. wala ako kinakampihan..Im not a thomasian nor tamaraw…hav blue blood :) actually, my daddy and sister graduated from UPD..i think if we know our brains are really functioning well here at alam mong panalo kayo..at alam mong mas magalaing kayo..

madaming mga nakakuha nung pix ng tarp na yun and for sure, meron magbblog about it.
yep gusto nila ipalabas na kakainin ng 400 ang 100 or something like that pero ang unang idea na pumasok sa isip ko, kakainin ni pacman yung 100 kesa sa 400? so mas gusto niya yung 100? ahehe. and the 400 < 100 image came into my mind as well kasabay ng, “ano ba ang iniimply talaga niyang tarp na yan, ahhhh kakainin ng 400 yung 100 pala ahehe, ang vague kasi eh” XD
di ito makikita sa tv kasi before the competition proper nilabas yung tarp - during the bangayan portion XD

I also expected that Adamson will make it to the top three, I think UST dont deserved the 2nd place, FEU naman isa same same with their floor routines, not so much of tosses and pyramids, hanga talaga ko sa mga pyramids ng Adamson, puro mahihirap at bago, at hindi na nila inulit ung carousel toss ha

UP really performed exceptionally yesterday. They defended and deserved the title… They really came up with fresh and unique routine and also the music they’ve used. Oh! even their costume, everything was really fantastic. I think AdU deserved to be the 1st runner up. feu was also good. :) As for UST, they’re still good but their performance yesterday is not the usual performance that SDT has. Well, I just can’t believe how people from Catholic school exhibit a tarp with the pacman thing… it’s OFF.. and very very disappointing. I hope next time they would know the meaning of sportmanship and RESPECT. God bless you all.

napansin ko lang sa routine ng adU more of tosses and pryramids at konti yung dance (watch nyo ulit sa youtube) kaya naisip ko na baka un yung dahilan kaya mababa yung nakuha nilang points. it’s a cheerdance competition and not cheerleading. :D

I still think that the crown of UST SALINGGAWI is unquestionable. They are always the team to beat in every competition. No doubt to that! Kung baga they are the standard in the competition. Being champions for 5 years in a row is a big WOW!

correct me if im wrong with regard to the 2 rivals UST SDT & UP PEP
UP is the agressive type, yung very hungry to win kaya mas gumagaling.
UST is the silent but superb team. Yung tipong they just do theyre best. your correct they are really the standards in the competition. Kung baga cla yung basehan ng pagiging magaling.

I think the biggest frustration of the UST fans are the pyramids. After the 2004 competition, Salinggawi could not find a breakthrough in this department. The 2006 routine,in my opinion, is the best routine I have seen in the UAAP even though they lack the difficulty in the pyramids, they have managed to sell the routine in a convincing way with the tumblings, the tosses, the individual skills, and the over all choreography. UST is consistent with its choreography - the best in the league,by far.

Hay naku ang pangit nung sa USTE ndi sila deserving sa spot nila..cguro dhil lang sa madami silang cheerer kya madmi ang ngcheer pero in sa performance ewn ko na lang..ndi ako npabilib eh i think my deserving pa sa spot nila. walng personalan sa comment i just said my opinion on wat i’ve seen. parang gnun na lang lagi ang line up ng nanalo..cguro dpat sila mgpacontest dunsa 3 school na nanalo ksi dun lang nman cla kumukuha lgi ng winner. ndi na sila ngbigay ng chance sa ibang school khit deserving manalo. un lang!

Eto Rankings ko….
1. UP - very exciting stunt and amusing dances, plus the costume is superb
2. AdU - astounding pyramids and new tosses, but not so much of dance routines
3. FEU - almost perfect performance no mistakes but a little kind of boring, too many not so difficult floor exercises
4. UST - I did not saw the UST SDT that i know! period….
5. ADMU - they are evolving as a PEP Squad
6. NU - they improved the most!
7. UE - so so performance
8. DLSU - are they a college Pep Squad? lol

yan ang nakakainis sa cheerdance eh parang yearly nalang yung 3 schools nalang na yun yung jinajudge nila feeling ko binabase lang ng mga judges yung magiging winner sa dami ng mga nagpuntang audience sa participating schools. Sa UP walang duda na mag champion cla kasi magaling talaga yung gnawa nila pero sa iba hmmm… Yun lang opinion ko lang sayang naman kasi para sa ibang schools na nag hirap at nag improve, yearly nalang napaka predictable ng mga nananalo.

I was surprised with the results. All people in araneta were expecting adamson to win.they did good.I have nothing against the judges who made those shools won. Ang sa akin lang….parang they set standard for it already. Give chance to other schools.

i was there in araneta watching all the squads perform their routines. it was a great job for the UP PEP SQUAD to came up with such routine. pasencya na po, di naman ako against sa UST but for me lang po, sa tingin ko lang po, mas may iba pang deserving sa pwesto ng UST. like ateneo and adamson. with regards to FEU deserving naman talaga sila to win. DLSU, they actually did a great job. very huge improvement. i was thinking that they can end up as part of the top 5 squads this year.
wag na magaway away, lets take into consideration naman yung effort ng lahat ng squad members. they all worked hard for it.

ive been reading a lot of comments today, just one thing i want to explain regarding UP’s errors. ummmm, first, nabigyan naman sila ng deductions dun, secondly judging a competition like this, hindi sa linis lang tinitingnan yun, yung level of dificulties ay isa ding factor. the level of dificulties na pinakita ng UP was very high. no simple stunts for UP this year. just lyk yung simple liberty nila, para mas tumaas ang dificulty level nagpapalitpalit ng paa on the third level of the stunt. thats very hard to do. four full twist tosses was done very smoothly. tumble pass was excellent. their skills wre superb. so you dont need to ask why sila nanalo, you cant even compare the squad to others kasi…. basta look at the scores. the theme was great. im a cheerleading choreographer for so many years now, i was even trained for the National cheerleading, the idea na pinakita ng UP was something na hindi ko naisip na pwede pala. i commend their coach for a job well done. formations to dances to stunts to tosses was great.
tigilan nyo na yung pagsasabi ng kung ano anong negative about UP. alam nyo na man sa sarili nyo na they really deserve it.
UST? dont want to comment regarding them anymore, kasi ang problema lang naman eh yung mga tao eh, i saw UST SDT na lumapit mismo sa UP PEP SQUAD after the announcement of winners. thats wat you need to do guys. kayo nagaaway away, nagsisiraan well in fact yung mga squad na magkakalaban magkakaibigan. maybe not real close but they appreciates each potentials and capabilities.

3.ADU/ADMU- kahit walang concept they deserve atleast top 3 because nakakapanibago cla at nadala nila ang audience
4.USt- alam na natin magaling sila pero wala silang ginawang bago nakakasawa yung routine nila dahil wala silang pinakitang iba. parang nag perform lang ala lang…
5.la salle- cute kasi sila

syempre mas malinis ang execution ng UST… kasi ikaw ba naman gumawa ng ganung steps year after year after year eh di khit tulog kau sabay sabay pa rin kau… hahahaha… safe lagi eh… takot matalo, takot sa sa bago… kaya 400 years na ang nakalipas, ganun pa rin!! eh ang UP, 100 years pa lang astig na! eh pano pa kaya kung 400 years na ang UP? san pupulutin ang iba dyan? sa kangkungan sa baha sa espanya??? hahaha. Ang UP gusto lagi bago ang pinapakita, ang binibigay. Kahit alam na it may mean sacrificing execution. Ganun tlga, risk taker. But they made sure that their originality and difficulty of steps will outweigh the errors that come with being original! Wag maging bitter… napaghahalataang di lang IQ ang mababa kundi pati EQ! hindi point kung lahat ng universities kampi sa inyo or hindi… ang point is, khit wlang mag drum beat para sa UP, eh kung tlgang magaling, magaling tlga. MAINIT NA PAGPUGAY SA MGA NAGHAHARIANG URING MGA ISKOLAR NG BAYAN! Astig UP!

UP deserves the win. the scores say it all. yes, we had a LOT of mistakes. madumi ang performance in some parts in fact, but we pulled off a fresh, creative routine that no team could match. i think UP bagged the most points in choreo because of the perfect routine they had. as for synchronicity, i bet the judges considered nga the DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY. MAHIRAP ANG ROUTINE NG UP PEP KAHAPON. SA MGA DANCERS, ALAM NIYO YAN. if this routine will be performed in one of the games, i bet perfect ‘to coz they would have had time to polish their moves. nevertheless, it was a superb performance.congrats to us!
KUDOS TO ALL THE OTHER TEAMS FOR A JOB WELL DONE!EVERYONE IMPROVED! GALING!
sorry to the UST fans but Gawi did not deliver this year. good thing they had better costumes than last year. FEU, ADU and ADMU gave a better performance. they deserve your place more. I WAS ACTUALLY EXPECTING FEU TO BE 2ND AND ADU 3RD.
as for the benchmark in the UAAP CDC. BOOM said it already. UP still sets the standard and im sorry to those who think otherwise. admit it, we all await what the UP PEP will do every year. UST had only one explosive performance and that’s in 2006 i think. other than that, its the same oold boring clean play safe routine na kaya ring i perform ng ibang teams with ease.sana they’ll come up with a unique routine naman. its the same thing every year eh

Congratulations again to the UP PEP SQUAD for a very outstanding performance!
Magaling din naman yung ibang mga schools, everyone can see how much each pep squad/troupe prepared for the competition. But of course kailangan may manalo and syempre the best school won hehehe…but then again i have to commend AdU and ADMU for a job well done, nakaka-amaze din yung mga performance snila, and yung NU nag-evolve din :)
Lahat naman magaling eh, may mas magaling o mas naghanda o mas nag-isip o mas deserving lang na mga schools but let that pose as a challenge for the next school years/competitions to come.
So sa mga nanalo na, stop making fun of other schools. tag-UP din ako, and we have to admit kung natalo tayo baka ganyan din magreact ang karamihan sa tin. Let’s not kick those who are already down.

UP - hindi malinis pero incomparable ang level of difficulty ng stunts. Lalo na yung tumbling tapos lifted kagad without any jerking whatsoever. The intro is also WOW, may inincorporate na ballet. The concept is original. They were the only ones who took major risks.
UST - malinis na malinis, pero nothing new. Nagawa na ang helicopter, zigzag, etc. Nawala na yung spark ng Salinggawi. Dati napapa-WOW ka talaga sa SDT. Ngayon, parang dumaan lang yung cheerdance nila, masyadong technical, halos walang innovation..
FEU - gumawa na rin sila ng theme. Actually maganda siya lalo na yung synchronization. Kaso tulad ng UP, hindi rin malinis ang execution. Maganda lang talaga ang concept.

2nd - AdU - napaka-underrated ng performance nila, the whole araneta crowd loved it.

panalo naman ang UP Pep Squad nating mga taga-peyups e..wag na tayong makipagtalo sa ibang tao. though foul nga naman yung 400 pacman 100 ng USTe..haha.di pa nga 400 e.anyways, sa UST SDT, just do better next year. at yung mga thomasian naman dyan..wag nang mang-away.haha.magcheer na lang uli next year.and for UP, kailangan mas galingan pa ng Pep natin para champ pa rin! sa ibang university naman..go lang ng go into improving! sana next year competitive lalo bawat schools..but at the same time, sport pa rin. there’s always a next year naman to try to be the champs di ba?

oh my god i couldn’t believed that I’d read it from the start till the end. the rivalry was so amazing. i want you guys to continue fighting till the next season. I was so entertained by your comments. it made me laugh from start up to the end.

what i can’t really understand is the bitterness of a lot of thomasians here. nakakatawa lang. wala nang masabi so itsura na lang ng pep ang titirahin. it’s a cheerdance competition, not a beauty contest, mind you. you’re judged not on your personal asppearance but your skills and skills alone. wala naman sa criteria ang “cheerdancers’ physical appearance” di ba? so kahit laitin pa ang itsura ng UP Pep, fact is NANALO SILA. yun lang yon. PANALO at hindi TALO. and yung excuses na karamihan sa members ng gawi eh newbies, it just reflects the innate attitude of Filipinos to put the blame on someone or something else to cover-up their FAILURES. tama, almost 400 years na ang university n’yo (rounded off to the neerest hundreds) but EXISTENCE is a far cry away from EXCELLENCE. kahit nga sa dictionary mauuna ang excellence kesa existence (hahahah). saka yung 2 yung judge ng up, naman! hindi naman nag-judge yung 1! taga-monitor lang siya ng deductions. and may set din ng criteria for the number of points you can deduct for a particular mistake. saka trimmed mean ang final scores, thereby eliminating the possibility of bias sa own school. excuses after excuses! 400 years nga kayo, mas pinipili pa rin naman ng marami na mag-try makapasok sa UP. kasi, we offer a HIGH S
