Bayo releases statement, apologizes for controversial ad

Clothing brand Bayo has issued an official statement apologizing for their ad campaign, “What’s Your Mix?”

The controversial ads featured mixed-race Filipino models with taglines “30% Indian, 70% Filipino” and “50% Australian, 50% Filipino (as in the case of Jasmine Curtis).”

Here is their official statement:

“We at BAYO deeply apologize for the message our campaign—‘What’s Your Mix?’—has unintentionally conveyed. We would like to express our regret to those who have been offended or felt discriminated against.

“Our company and our partners have always taken pride in being pro-Filipino as we continue to celebrate our uniqueness and achievements. We believe that being a Filipino will always make you 100% beautiful. It is unfortunate that this message got lost along the way.

“We thank everyone who has shown support for our thrust of promoting Filipino beauty, talent, and creativity.”

The issue has spawned a number of Facebook and Twitter memes, which include Bernardo Bernardo (50% Bernardo, 50% Bernardo), Kuya Germs (50% German, 50% Moreno), and Claudine Barretto (50% Actress, 50% Action Star).
