Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch dies

Adam Yauch a.k.a. MCA of the hip hop trio the Beastie Boys passed away Friday.

He was 47 years old. The cause of death is yet to be announced although in 2009, MCA was diagnosed and treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node.

The official website of the group has posted an obituary, which in part says:

“It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam “MCA” Yauch, founding member of Beastie Boys and also of the Milarepa Foundation that produced the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits, and film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer. He was 47 years old.”

MCA is survived by his wife Dechen, his daughter Tenzin Losel, his parents Frances and Noel Yauch.
