Hubert Webb, 6 others acquitted by Supreme Court

Hubert Webb, Antonio “Tony Boy” Lejano, Michael Gatchalian, Miguel Rodriguez, Peter Estrada, Pyke Fernandez, and former police officer Gerardo Biong were acquitted by Supreme Court (SC) in the Vizconde massacre case on Tuesday.

Voting 7-4, the Supreme Court (SC) En Banc said that the prosecution failed to prove their guilt beyond reasonable doubt. The SC reversed two lower courts’ findings that found them guilty of killing three members of the Vizconde family in 1991. Meanwhile, Lauro Vizconde, the patriarch of the massacre victims, reportedly “collapsed” upon hearing the news and has admitted later on that he has lost his trust in the justice system in the Philippines.
