Nepali Chandra Bahadur Dangi beats Filipino Junrey Balawing as World’s Shortest Man

18-year-old Filipino Junrey Balawing of Zamboanga del Norte is no longer the shortest man.

This after the Guinness World Records declared 72-year-old Nepali Chandra Bahadur Dangi who stands 54.6 centimeters (21.5 inches) as the new “world’s shortest man.” He is 5.3 cm shorter than Balawing.

Balawing held the said record for 8 months, which he received last June after turning 18 years old. He was supposed to go to Italy in April with his family to meet the tallest man, Turkey’s Sultan Kosen. With this development, it looks like Dangi will be the one to go there instead.

Dangi also broke the record of being the oldest person to be awarded the shortest-man record. The record was previously held by India’s Gul Mohammed who was measured at 57cm before he died in 1997 at age 40.
